Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA)

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

I have had four children graduate Stroudsburg High School. They have all received a quality education and continued on to college. Some of my kids have participated in Varsity sports and various competitive academic activities. As parents we found these activities to be fair and well run. This is a small town community based school located in town on Main Street. The school is under going major renovations and is definitely a jewel in the community. As students my kids were average to better than average and have fond memories of their High School years. The teachers at Stroudsburg high School do care and strive to help the kids reach their potential. My only negative comment would be we found the principal Mr. Sodl to be disassociated from the student population and some what condescending when dealing with parental concerns.

Taxes go up and they put 4 big screen tvs in the cafeteria...????? While other important needs go untouched... This big school in a small town is plainly bored simpletons. I for 1 believe very highly in a uniform policy and value the positive effects it can have for our students however this school faculty is nit picking everything possible. Not allowing kids to wet coats with hoods though they have to go outside all day to mods & back. Raining snowing no matter. Calling kids out randomly for fitted pants... "too tight". While others parade around in skirts provacative and skin showing. We are dealing with childishness in the high school faculty. I have 3 children and they would not be allowed to leave the house in clothing that is in anyway innapropriate. We personally bought conservative clothing to meet the schools criteria and I love it. I do think it eliminates many problems.. It is not being enforced in a properly discerning way and this pettiness is stopping our kids from doing what they are there to do. Leave our kids alone and let them learn.

I had 2 children attend this school. Both have recently graduated. In the time they attended I saw nothing less than the Principal exhibit compassion and leadership to his students. A better principal can not be found. This past year a new Assistant Vice Principal had been added to the staff and he is a welcome addition. He also exhibits leadership to his students but in a way that lets them know he is there for them; to help them achieve their goals. The teachers over the years have been mostly high quality a few here and there perhaps lacking a little but overall I rate them well. When I compare our school to others I feel like we can stand tall and hold our heads proud.

From 2nd grade I have attended Stroudsburg Area School District. But upon reaching 10th grade my educational experience took a hit. Many classes are simply packet based rather than instruction being given. Favoritism is far too common. On many occasions I will raise my hand and either be ignored or looked at as if I am not trying to make a positive contribution to class. It is as if some teachers and administrators cant get over their own ego. Now in 11th grade and trying to do well my guidance counselor has ruined my schedule making me take a class which i have already passed a higher level of. The councilor did this after my schedule had been perfect and looked me in the eye and told me that he didn't think I was good enough to do the class. He has done this to my brother and sister who have both attended and found that had it not been for some outside tutoring they would have practically learned nothing. I must warn against Stroudsburg High School as there is a tension and unfairness to the building which has a detrimental effect on a students education.

Stroudsburg High School provides a quality education. Their dress code promotes equality among students and eliminates the need to one up one another with their clothes. I know the kids don't always appreciate it but as a parent and educator it is a big advantage. All the teachers and administrators I have interacted with have been courteous and willing to go the extra mile for the kids. Just like most things you get out of it what you put into it. We looked at all the schools in the area and moved to Stroudsburg to attend this school.

This is a School not worth taking your child to us students have to walk through a construction site pretty much everyday to get in the High School. The principal doesn't put a effort into making this a good school all he does is give his little speech at the beginning of the school year. The dress code is never in order I'm pretty sure someone gets sent to the office almost every week due to it. I don't even understand why we have one in the first place its a public school people are still keeping there pants down. The dress code didn't fix anything. A few years ago they stopped most school trips and some clubs due to being "low on money funds." Then explain why they are spending almost over a million dollars on rebuilding the school. which aka is the construction site I mentioned. The only decent thing this school has is a good athletic team and decent teachers. If I was a parent right now and if my kid was in this school I'd take em out of the school. I'd recommend Cyber school or Home school. Or even take Est Stroudsburg high school if your desperate. I maybe a student but If you want a honest answer about this school. This is it.

Stroudsburg High School can be commended for their high standards and excellence in education. In particular we compliment the Music Arts/Photography and English Departments. Our son is a student at Kutztown University in search of a degree in Art Education. He is finding that some of the classes he is taking are very easy for him because Stroudsburg High School has already taught him many of the things that some of the students are just beginning to learn. As a result of this the professors at Kutztown recognized this and have given my son other challenges and opportunities to advance to the next level. The teachers and the opportunities are available at Stroudsburg to all that are willing to take on the challenges. With dedication and hard work their future opportunities are endless!

Stroudburg HS has yet to correct the class ranking problem that has existed for several years. In addition several faculty members should not be teaching in any school anywhere due to their lack of communication ability focus. The administration and guidance office hides behind the assumption that our children are able to listen to verbal announcements regarding upcoming events crucial to their college futures-ie college fairs tests etc. Guidance and adminstration have no control over faculty. Conflicts are not properly addressed and avoided. Security remains an issue - theft is rampant and there are no repercussions for any minor crimes.
