Jefferson is a wonderful school with amazing leadership and staff. Jefferson is a true community; from administrators to staff to parents and students. This is the smallest school in Summit and the class sizes are amazing. There is a focus on serving the needs of the individual student and embracing diversity in an authentic way. There is a lot of differentiated and small group instruction which allows the teachers to really get to know their students and vice versa. It starts with Mr. Poles our wonderful principal and spreads from there. He is outside nearly every morning greeting every child by name as they come on to campus. I really cannot say enough positive things about the school and the community around it. People know their neighbors. People care about one another. It s a wonderful warm engaged community with Jefferson School as the center. It is a gem.

This is the smallest elementary school in Summit. My son's 5th grade class only had 16 children in it. The school has a very close knit community and the principal knows everyone by name. It has a very diverse population but considering that most of the other Summit schools are very homogeneous we think it is a huge plus!
Our family is so blessed to have our children educated at Jefferson Elementary School. There is a sense of community here that just can't be put into words. From our wonderful principal greeting each child at drop off every morning addressing him or her by name to the dedicated staff who bend over backwards each day not just educating our children but making sure they are truly cared for. My children are thriving here both academically and socially. It's a wonderful school and community to have supporting your family.
When we first moved here I heard various things about Jefferson and how it compared to other elementary schools in the town. Initially I was concerned. However any concerns or fears I had were misplaced. Jefferson is a wonderful elementary school. My child is thriving and just loves her school. The staff is incredible. You can't beat our class sizes. All elementary schools in our town have the same curriculum and filter into the same middle school. Our family enjoys Jefferson's diversity as well. It is a great community of parents and staff. I'm glad we learned first hand about this little gem.
My kids love this school the principal and the teachers are great there are a lots of activities and learning all thru out school time students are well manner kids learn and have fun at the same time.
Jefferson is an excellent school struggling to adapt to the needs of its students while continually being compared to other Summit schools in wealthier neighborhoods. It is disturbing to read people are reluctant to move into the Jefferson School area due to its lower state rating. We are all supposed to be embracing our increasingly diverse population yet here we are with a wonderfully diverse student body in a school with a supportive caring and hard-working staff and ratings are down due to standardized test scores. These same students move on to Summit Middle and High Schools and are able to succeed due to the strong foundation Jefferson has provided them. It should be applauded.
Don't let the economic division in Summit change your opinion of Jefferson. It is a fantastic school. The families are involved. There is a wonderful mix of cultures and diversity. The teachers principal and staff are devoted and caring and very approachable. The first/second grade multi-age class system is a unique concept that makes student's education more personalized.
Jefferson is a wonderful school. All of my children have attended the school and have received an excellent education. My eldest is in the Middle School and is a straight A student and is in the highest level of math. I have no doubt they are given all the tools necessary to become successful in life.
Wonderful and dedicated teachers and staff. Great programs available to the students and I love the diversity!
There is some wild misconception that Jefferson is somehow not as good as the other schools in Summit. Our children thrive at Jefferson. From the top down this school is amazing.
Jefferson School is a low-ish income school that exists in an extraordinarily wealthy community. It is unable to to compete financially with other elementary schools right across town but it offers a terrific curriculum to its extremely diverse student body nonetheless. Dedicated teachers and support staff and a Principal who heart is fully in the job make Jefferson School a special place that is truly dedicated to bringing out the best in each child.
so many diverse cultures- a community willing to share and learn
