The academics is great and teaching my children to have a passion for learning and they love to go to school everyday. The teacher's here you can tell they really have a passion for teaching it really is a very special place. Dr. Tuck the principal is a very special person as well filling the school with love and happiness. I am so grateful that this has been my children's elementary school experience. They really get my kids and bring out he best in them.

We moved from out of state this past fall. My child's transition was wonderful. The teachers and famines are very welcoming. The academics learning environment and opportunities are exceptional. Extremely pleased and so happy we found SRS!

SRS has a dynamic parent group that is actively involved! The school provides a wide range of educational opportunities for the students.

SRS is one of those unique elementary schools where there is a rare combination of a very strong faculty an active tuned-in responsive administrative/support team and consistently positive parental involvement. All of these qualities combine to provide the SRS students with a high-powered teaching/learning experience. After 38 years in the education profession I can attest to the fact that SRS provides an exemplary model for what a high-impact elementary education should look like.

This beautiful old stone building used to be the home of Swarthmore High School. From the moment you step inside you know you have come to a great place to learn. The classrooms are spacious and bright. The walls are filled with student artwork - temporary displays and permanent exhibits like mosaics and sculptures. And then there are the people... Wonderful warm teachers who compete valiantly for positions and stay on for decades as they hone their craft a principal who somehow knows the names of all the students and parents an army of secretaries ready to help deliver a forgotten lunch or track down a teacher. But most importantly this school is filled with happy engaged students. Kindness is part of the curriculum at this school and it shows in student interactions These kids are energetic and silly but also careful with each other. I can't imagine sending my children anywhere else for school - public or private!

I have two children at this school with very different needs and personalities. All but one of their teachers has surpassed our expectations.

SRS has been a wonderful place for my kids to learn for the past six years. My oldest child just graduated and my fourth and youngest child is about to start kindergarten there. The teachers really seem to care about the children as individuals. My favorite part is the sense of community and fun. The kids seem so happy to be there. The families at this school really care about educational excellence and it is a priority. It s in a beautiful stone building that is finally being air conditioned this summer! They teach the kids a lot about character values anti-bullying etc. The instrumental music program is excellent - my oldest kids have learned flute and trumpet and are both in band. I noticed some reviewers have been disappointed with special ed but I know a lot of families who ve been very pleased with special ed services here. When my one child struggled with math I felt his teacher was very on the ball with offering him extra help and giving me strategies to help him at home. Now he s getting A s and B s on math tests. It s such a safe neighborhood and I love that my kids can walk or bike to school. SRS is a strong and warm community.

Swarthmore Rutledge offers the resources and reach of a great public school and the student-teacher ratio and individual attention of an elite private school. My son's experience in kindergarten and first grade have exceeded our expectations. The children learn excellent reading skills and they have daily opportunities to read with other children at their skill levels to encourage them to learn from reading aloud and talking about what they are reading. A cutting edge math curriculum means that six year olds at SRS are using higher level thinking skills to solve interesting word problems. And there is still time for art music and gym! The kindness and community spirit that is engendered in these kids is amazing and a care for others is woven into each day's work when possible. But perhaps most importantly our son LOVES going to school each day and I believe he learns well in large part because school at SRS is FUN!

Wonderful teachers admin and opportunities for students and each student is treated as an individual with great respect for his or her ideas!

I went to SRS in the early 90s - my parents moved us into the school district from a nearby town when my older brother was in first grade and I was in kindergarten. There is a special place in my heart for all of the teachers administrators and friends from SRS. I made life-long friends at SRS. I learned about morality and ethics in a non-secular environment and remember the teachings and "words of wisdom" to this day 20 years later.

This is my son's first year at SRS and also his first year at a public school. He is in 5th grade. I wish that he had been at SRS the last few years. He had a lot of difficulty at his previous schools. I was very concerned about him moving to a public school but it has been a WONDERFUL experience. I can't say enough good things about SRS. And to the special ed parents out there....while he isn't diagnosed...there have been a lot of teachers over the years that thought my son was diagnosable and SRS has been fantastic with this also. They truly care and want him to succeed!

To the parent who wants to know about special ed Please don't do this to your family unless you want to spend the rest of your child's childhood miserable even with lawyers you can't fix something what is this broken.

I went to SRS for 3rd and 4th grade and I was unbelievably happy. The student body is eager to learn while friendly to people of all races and religions. The diversity is quite high and makes interacting with others easier. The teachers pushed you to do your best and never give up. I LOVED THIS SCHOOL!!

don't move here for special ed help. I have had two children in the district with special needs and it is a fight all of the time. SRS is especially week but there is a new principal which could help but the staff is weak and teachers are not supportive.

Forgive me for not posting a review but asking for a request. Would parents of special ed students please rate this school? We are thinking of moving to the area and we have a child with ADHD. I would love to hear how this school performs in the special ed dept!

Where to begin? Excellent school amazingly talented teachers. New principal is enthusiastic and kind dedicated and invested in helping children succeed. Super-involved Home and School association that runs community events and nontraditional fundraisers. The children are engaged and happy when you walk around the school. After five years here we are sad to leave SRS behind but are looking forward to attending our fabulous middle school

We are very pleased with the level of differentiation offered in our child's first grade class - were not expecting it. We moved to Swarthmore from a neighboring state and are happy to see that the school is embraced by its community and the community by the school. Many afterschool enrichment opportunities - some at low- or no-cost. Plenty of opportunities for parents to be involved as well. The school has a very strong and consistent PTA (called Home and School). The teachers and staff we've met are incredibly knowledgeable and professional as well as kind! Couldn't have asked for a better school and SO glad to be part of an outstanding public district!

I'm a teenager who went to SRS as a young child. I learned so much and the teachers had much to offer. They really care about their students and really want them to do their best.

Absolutely the most amazing school I can imagine. My two daughters attend the school and I wish I could too! All of the teachers are committed intelligent and caring and the school boasts incredible leadership. I am an educator and come from a family of educators so I have very high standards.
