Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

Im a student at Hoover and overall its ok. There are lots of problems with it too. Like the dress code. It is way too strict. If we have even the tiniest of holes in our jeans we have to call home to get a parent to bring us a new pair. If we dont have a parent at home then we stay in the computer lab all day and do our work there only if they dont have a pair of pants your size. And then there are the Teachers. They do not discipline properly. I sit in my sixth hour class and get nothing done because everyone is doing something other then the assignment. I cant hear over them so that means I cant hear the teacher giving directions and this is only one class. And then lastly there are the students. Most of them goof off. They bully other students and once again dont get disciplined. It makes me mad that the good students drown because the bad ones grab on and dont let go. But I do have to admit the school has a few good things to make up for it. Im in chorus and its really fun! I loved going to competition and performing for my school and my parents. It also has lots of activitys to do. Im in the 8th grade and I will not be here next year. Its my M.S. and I`ll miss it (.

We have had NOTHING but problems since moving into Taylor. Most of the teachers here are more concerned with dress codes and kids tattling on one another then anthing else. I had to bring a pair of jeans to my kid at 1pm (even tho school started at 7 30am) because the principle would not allow her to return to class due to a small rip in her jeans. to which she had leggings underneath. What a joke this place is.

I went to Hoover when I was in Middle school. It has changed so much. Over all I do no like the way the school is now. I have a son who attends the school now. If your child is not in the music program I feel they are over looked. Teacher are very hard to get a hold of and you never get good reports. Only the bad ones. Makes kids feel bad when they always point out the bad and never focus on the good the children do. Also I feel that Mrs. Winnie needs to focus more on making the kids feel safe in school and not focus so much on the music program. My son does not feel safe at his school. The fighting is OUT OF CONTROL. But every time I call to talk to her she is always out or busy with he Band or music program.

I think Hoover is a very good Jr. HS but I don't like the fact that the Teachers don't talk to the parents much if at all and it is hard to reach a Teacher. They each need to have their own e-mail then you can reach them better or a voice message box. I like Mrs. Winnie because she is very much involved with kids she cares and takes action when kids are bullying or picking on other kids.I would recomend this school to any parent to send their child here. * Parent *

Hoover is a great school for kids. Kids at Hoover enjoy band and choir classes which they sign up for at the end of 6th grade at their elementary school. There are many sports students can get into such as basketball swimming track cheerleading and volleyball. Also students can join drama which my daughter loved. Parents if you like to be involved with your child's school please come to Hoover because there are many activites you can be involved in. So if your looking for a middle school please pick Hoover over all the other schools!!!

I have just finished 8th grade at Hoover middle school. I would like to say before i start that the teachers and principal are above standard. The problem is the students and parents. A day at hoover means a day where you are phsyically and emotionaly bullied. The lack of disipline is a very big issue and brings the school down. But the BIGGEST problem is the parents. Most of these parents dont get involved enough to even have a GENERAL idea of whats going on.

I used to go to this school and it was just awesome it really was. Mrs. Winnie was the best principal there ever was because she had always made the school safe ever since I got there which was her 1st year as well. The teachers and staff do more than what is needed to make the students successful there. Teachers like Ms. Sryniawski Mrs. Dusek Mrs. Daihl Mrs. Lecznar and Mrs. Lang taught me more than what Id ever thought Id know later in life. I really think thats a number one rating school and Im in high school now but I wish I was still there because you can only walk those awesome Hoover Middle School halls twice. So Parents looking for a middle school for your child to attend for the fall? Pick Hoover! People gotta agree with me its the best MS in Taylor! Thanks Hoover!

Which is something Mrs.Winnie came up with to get kids out of trouble and to be come better learners and better ciztens. Principal leadership is the BEST in Taylor. No one is like Teresa Winnie.
