Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP)

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

Used to live in a bigger city and was worried about what the school experience would be like in such a small town.. I have been very surprised! Patterson has been a wonderful experience for my children there is a great community of parents and lots of support from teachers. In these trying times when other surrounding larger communites are having to cut music art and gym..Patterson and Tecumseh schools are making sure to keep all of the extras and then some.

Some teachers in this school seem to put emphasis on writing children up for every infraction you can think of. Also there are those that have no control over their classroom. Certain teachers I feel should not be teaching or at least not at the elementary level. They are very impersonal. Extra curriculum activities are lacking and if there are any they are only for a short time. Language is still not taught at the elementary school level instead it's an after-school 1/2 hour program about once a week for only a few weeks. What are the kids going to learn or remember? I am glad my child only went here for a few years.

Patterson is an amazing school! We are so fortunate to live in this community and attend this building. It offers superb leadership communication support and academics. The staff is exceptional and caring.

We have been extremely happy with all of the teachers we have had while attending Patterson. We have chosen to remove our children from this school due to the lack of support from the principal regarding food allergy procedures and awareness. Unfortunately he has not been willing to work with us to resolve our issues even though repeated attempts have been made. I would not recommend this school for food allergic children.
