California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I have recently graduated from Hull with the Class of 2014 and I must say it is a good school with a lot of potential. However there are some things that I believe are holding this school back. First is the leadership of the principal and I feel like he does not seem to give any of the students that much motivation as the vice principal does. In fact I saw the vice principal as a better leader of this school. I believe principal leadership is an important factor in how well students will be willing to learn and I just didn't see it in the current principal. Second is student discipline. This is something that has been a problem ever since I arrived here in 6th grade. Many rumors seem to spread quickly around this school and some of them included talks of fights after school. Bullies aren't rare here either and verbal abuse and texting in class were everyday occurrences among all grade levels. This school needs to improve a lot but I believe that once that has been done J.H. Hull will become a better school.

My son just graduated from J.H Hull last year! I liked it when he was in the 7th grade because it seemed like the teachers cared about their students! I however didn't like it when he was in the 8th grade because he had a lot of problems with friends spreading rumors and the only parents to be called into the office was us! We were never able to talk to all parties involved! So I would have to say in the end this school disappointed me!!! I did like a few teachers though just a few that I met actually care about their students grades & health!

Fast forward 2013. My kid is in 6th grade. I considered about open enrollment but decided to give it a try after meeting with principal. He spent time for us to meet with him and explained about school and direction so I did. So far my kid is doing great and I see teachers are doing their best. Out of classroom school hosts seminars to help parents and students as well. There will be some students who wouldn't follow directions from school no matter what. That issue starts from home. Not school. So far I am pleased with how Hull is performing and looking forward my second kid following the suit.

I attended JH Hull back in the early 70's I dreaded going to school from time to time we had police on the school grounds due to having area gangs going there to fight The students were in clicks and if you didn't fit in forget it. I was repeatedly bullied the 2 years that I was there and yes I did try my best in making friends to no avail. Being pushed into the lockers tripped smacked around was no fun. Reporting it didn't help.

This school is a disappointment. It lacks passion. They failed my daughter. It's unfortunate because this was a "distinguished" several of years back.

This school is just bad the teachers are the only good thing in the whole school. The vice principal is rude and pretends to be your friend. There is also a few vairety of ethnicity.

We moved here from out of state and were not impressed with this school or the staff. The attendance lady belittles the children even if they miss school due to a medical condition with a note from Children's Hospital. The Vice Principal was condescending and down right rude to us while pretending to be my daughter's buddy. We have pulled our child and are homeschooling through a Virtual Academy. My letter to the Principal and Vice Principal regarding the issues were not even responded to.
