California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

"Success is not an accident" that is this schools motto and I love it! They do everything the can to ensure our children are successful!

We couldn't be happier with this school! Great staff and awesome students! Campus is kept clean and beautiful. The staff is caring and seem to go above and beyond to help the students.

Great school! I know my kids are happy & safe here. Mrs Orsi has been a great addition this year

I am a twenty year veteran teacher who has worked at three schools and had numerous principals over the years. I am thrilled to work for a person who truly cares about student achievement and staff development. In the past four years I have learned numerous strategies for engaging all of my students. I have been taught how to use the data from assessments to drive my instruction. I have been given time to grade level plan research and develop supplemental curriculum that helps to enrich all of my students. I have been given supplies time and support by our principal. I appreciate how she asks "What can I as administration do to support you in your classroom". I have never seen her behave in any unprofessional manner toward staff parents or students. She has improved my teaching and my school's performance and most of our staff's morale. I am very sad to think that this website is being used to assault a person's character and personal appearance. I truly feel that it shows a lot about the person posting's character. We as adults should make the community a better and more positive place. For those of you seeking change seek it within yourself.

This is my 2nd review of Hawkins as I have had a change in heart. I still 100% believe that we have amazing teachers however our principal needs to go. She is not honest and does NOT want parents in the picture; 3 years ago parents were all over....now you aren't welcome. Hawkins was named after an amazing person from our community and she is bringing the school to a horrible level. She should be able to answer simple questions without changing the her answer numerous times. I am excited about our change to common core standards. Hoping this will be a positive change in our children's education.

It is very unfortunate that the vice principal is leaving Tom Hawkins. She was a tremendous asset to the rest of the staff families and students. Whenever I had a problem or concern she would handle it quickly and fairly. Unlike our principal who is nothing but a power hungry bully!

Teachers are pretty good except for one 5th and one 6th grade one. Principle would fit in better in a motorcycle gang with her inappropriate attire and visible tatts. Not sure where they found this beauty! She is EVIL and unfair!! Will be sending my kids to another school next year

The principal is that bad. She doesn't look at the over all picture. Very disrepectful to parents.

I am starting to see a pattern....the new principal is terrible. Luckily the rest of staff is terrific or I would do everything I could to move my child to Jefferson. The main issue I have with her is she is not organized. She sets dates and times for events and then changes them at the last minute. I guess she thinks the whole world revolves around her and her schedule but as a working parent it is extremely unsettling not to mention how it dissapoints the children.

I strongly agree!!!The new principal is extremely "disrepectful" to staff students and parents which is ironic considering she promotes the new school rules that state " be respectful be responsible and be safe". What a joke. However the rest of Tom Hawkins staff is awesome!

I feel sorry for anyone who feels that our new Principal is not fantastic. She holds staff students and parents accountable. Some people don't like that can't get away with the BS they have been allowed to get away with for so many years. The only people who could possibly feel threatened by this wonderful new addition are those who kids have been been help accountable for their actions up until now. She is bringing the school back to being run by the people it should be run by not by the few parents who have held court up until now.

We have two children that attend Tom Hawkins. The first has been at the school for 7 years now and our second for 5 years. We have always loved our teachers and staff and now we can say the same about our new principal. She is tough and has many rules but none of which that can be considered wrong for our kids. Those that think otherwise must have the "blameless" children that are getting into trouble. Follow the rules. Life and your actions do have consequences and she is teaching them that.

I have 2 kids who attended Tom Hawkins this year and we have been a part of this school for the last 4 years. I've been very happy with the staff up until this year and I'm very sad to say that we will not be returning next year. This decision was a very hard one to make but I will not have my children in such a hostile environment.

Last fall we made a huge move across the country and all of my kids attended Tom Hawkins. I could not have been more pleased with our choice. I was very happy with the teachers the other kids and all involved in this school. They made our transition as easy as possible and definitely made us feel welcome.

I can only say positive things about our experience at Hawkins. I have had kids in every grade and have always been more than satistifed by the education they have received. Worried about the STAR test results? How about volunteering to help in the class? Because of budget cuts there aren't the teachers aids to work with kids who need one on one help or ESL students. Be a part of the solution!

My son is in Kindergarten. So far we had a very good experience.Ms. Scornaienchi is a great teacher. The school is very safe and clean. This school deserves a better rating.

The administration and the teachers are the best in Tracy by far! The school spirit is unmatched as well.

The kids at this school treated my children as outsiders. My kids were so much happier at their old school in Hayward where everyone was friendly. My daughter told me the kids here are more into acting like they are rich than the family environment she is used to. The teachers don't seem to help in this matter much. The education is okay but nothing spectacular.

Hawkins is a great school with many talented and caring teachers and other staff. The education is superb with everyone trying to bring out the best in my children. It is a very safe environment.
