California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I don't believe I would have wanted my children to attend any other school in the District. Truckee Elementary has an amazing teaching staff who care deeply about the success of all students. The teachers work to not only teach the crucial skills needed to learn to read and do math but to find ways to enrich the children's learning in so many other ways. The school has an envio-lution club which focuses on waste reduction and a food waste recycling program by using red worms to eat food that would have been thrown away. They have an amazing science program for 5th grade students that one of the teachers created and has UC Berekley staff teaching at the 3 day overnight program in the Tahoe National Forest. An after school music education program is offered throughout the year and led by one of the teachers. This is free of cost and children learn to play an instrument of choice and are taught by high school students. Art writing and science displays grace the halls of the main building. And to add to all this the school has an active and wonderful PTO. The parents give so much to the school. Their quest to provide enrichment during and after school goes above and beyond.

As a parent of kindergartener and a 1st grader I am very supportive of what this school has done with the resources given. There's always room for improvement no matter where you are and I'm confident that my children are on task with their education while blossoming socially. The teachers we've had have demonstrated a healthy combination of discipline and kindness. We are grateful to have them!

This school is about community. Many parents involved teachers who really care about the kids and effort from the whole community to make Truckee El. a great school

Truckee Elementary has superseded our expectations. What a wonderful place for my child to learn and grow!

Truckee Elementary School is an important part of this community. Aside from the normal educational classes the teachers are looking for different ways to help their students. There are various programs designed to help the children socialize properly within the existing community and there s a special reading program to assist those children that are having a more difficult time. There is a group of volunteers that go to this school with their dogs and the children with reading challenges read to the dogs. This program has helped a significant number of children and is a different way to help them be better readers

We have been very happy with the growth of our children at Truckee El. The teachers make sure to know and work with each student's strengths weaknesses and interests both individually and in groups. We feel that the relationship between teachers families and staff is as a team. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. We take pride in our cultural diversity. Truckee El has blossomed under the leadership of its principal and teachers. They are truly developing students to strengthen the community as a whole in addition to developing intelligent well-rounded individuals.

Truckee Elementary School even though it is a public school is filled with caring creative teachers. The principal is hands- on always available and a inspiring leader. It was her idea to have her hair publicly spray painted if the kids reached a very high goal to read certain amounts of words. Of course the kids came through -) The atmosphere in the school is inviting a local artist beautified the walls and integrated book characters and pupils drawings. Parents are very involved and make the school what it is a place where kids are listened to and cared for. I volunteer at the school and started a dog reading program another example of how progressive this place is.

We love Truckee Elementary. In reading the other posting in the past year it is unfortunate that these parents weren't happy. The school has so much parent involvement and a very good staff. Bottom line my children are doing very well. They have music art computer lab science lab library time read 30+ plus nightly and play play play. We moved up from the bay area and would not raise our children anywhere else.

My husband and I are disappointed in T E. Those who state this school is diverse obviously have not been exposed to diversity. We recently moved to Truckee from the Bay Area. My child was exposed to diversity in the bay. There are only two ethnic groups that attend TE. Having caucasians and hispanics together in one school does not make this school diverse! Unfortunately staff and the school district have lost focus on why they originally became involved in Education. Staff are so concerned with how their test scores look they have lost the deeper reason of why they. Scams a teacher. Our sons teacher ( who shall not be named ) claims our son is way behind as he came from Bay Area schools. If there are children who are struggling in school then the teacher needs to step up and do their job. We work with our son at home but the positive feedback from the teacher - this is critical for a childs self esteem. We have noticed our sons attitude is much different then before. He gets very upset when he doesn't understand the work he needs to complete and he seems depressed when having to go to school. We have decided to move out of the district to avoid Truckee schools all together.

We moved away to get out of this school district. This school is not diverse. There are really only two ethnic groups represented and they very rarely mix. My children had very few "ethnic" friends. Not because they didn't seek friendship with these children but because there is a huge unspoken division amongst these two groups. The school spends a lot of time and money focusing on raising their terrible test scores but very little on supporting advanced education. Shameful. Now that I see what a good public education can be I truly feel sorry for all those kids. My children are receiving a better education because of our move.

I agree too much tolorance for children with bad behavior. If I would have known what I know now I would have chosen a different school for my children to attend.

This school is what Truckee is all about it's diverse population represents Truckee as a town. If you moved here for the experience of living away from the big city you will find it here. I have been in town 26 years my children attended TE and they both went to great Universities. The quality of education here is top notch!! The staff is up on all the latest research that promotes learning for every student. This population at this school is not hand picked it is real world. Your child will learn what it means to get along with everyone not just those in his/her own economic group. Cheers to all the staff and the awesome principal!

Definitely the heart and soul of Truckee. For those who can't handle integration charter and private schools are an alternative.

Another plus to Truckee Elementary is the programs they do as a class...how many other schools have ski lessons and swim lessons as part of their class activities?

In my opinion best elementary school choice in TTUSD. Yes there is a huge achievement gap but the problem does not originate with the school. Truckee Elementary consistently proves its effectiveness with the groups that are succeeding - check the test scores by demographics. If the achievement gap were to be the school's fault all groups would fall short. The problem at the school is purely socio-economics which is personal and sensitive but not racist. The school has a dedicated excellent teaching staff. Before- and after-school enrichment and music programs challenge those acedemically advanced. I don't understand the flight from this school. Donner Trail is overrated with resources hyper-extended and stressed; Glenshire does not offer the social diversity. The Principal leadership at Truckee needs to be stronger otherwise I would have given the school five stars.

Amazing school. My son is in first grade and has had two great years at Truckee Elementary. The teachers are all very different in their teaching styles but very gifted and all have something unique to offer. A couple should consider retirement but every school has that. I am very involved in my sons class of 21 students and over half of the parents volunteer their time. Our new principal is a humble leader. And our diverse demographic is positive addition to my child's education both socially and intellectually. Come check it out for yourself

the teachers don't 'get' these kids; there is very little personalized attention and the kids at either end of the spectrum are ignored. Sad for such a little school district!

I am the parent of a Kindergarten student at TE. I have been very impressed with the teacher's ability to meet the needs of all the students. This school has a diverse population in comparison to the other Truckee school and I see this as a great plus for the students as they learn about the world around them. The children learn a great deal of compassion towards all. The new principal is a positive addition to the school. I encourage all Truckee residents to visit the school first hand before forming your opinion.
