The school wasn't the best but it taught me way more in my years there then the schools i went to after. The gifted programs were excellent the teachers were nice and upbeat i missed them when i left. Yes the school had student behavior problems but with the area it was in it would happen in any school. The schools discipline policy was too strict in my mind though the amount of punishment you received from minor violations of dress code/not doing homework were a little too much. All in all i wouldn't have wanted to go to another school i met some of the best teachers i've ever had in this school.

First thing in any comment please re-read it and make sure you read it with spell check. Whitney had great teachers and they taught very well but lets face it no child left behind screwed them and left them with children who didn't want to learn but with what they are given they are doing a great job. As a former student I know that the office can be a little crabby and let's face it anti-social...but they do their job and nothing more nothing less just as everyone would expect.
Whitney has strong staff and support it is an amzing school my children have better grades than ever and ara also getting more challenged so thank you!
This has been my first year to teach at Whitney and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I agree that some of the teachers may come across as being rude or mean but I'd like to suggest the terms frustrated and isolated instead. Some parents/guardians are very involved but on the whole parental support is very minimal. I understand work schedules and other priorities but I also agree with the idea that parental involvement is pivotal. As teachers it often feels as if we are expected to be parents and disciplinarians and this is reinforced when we make phone calls or have parent-teacher meetings and are asked what we are going to do to ensure a student acts correctly. It's not the only reason for poor instruction but when a teacher spends his or her time raising half the class there isn't much time left for instructing the others.
I have had three children attend Whitney in the past ten years. I have watched as the parental involvement in the school has dwindled to near nothing. When my oldest began school there the stands at ball games were filled with parents of cheerleaders ball players and fans there to support the school. Now many parents simply drop their child off and come back later to get them never witnessing their accomplishments. This is also true of band/choir concerts. You get what you put into the school. If parents are involved the children will follow. How can someone expect the teachers to remain in contact with parents when they've never met you (at back-to-school night or parent-teacher conferences)? Does this school need help? Yes it does and it begins with the parents getting more involved. - An involved parent
The staff at Eli Whitney cared about the students as a whole the school was very clean my thanks and gradatuite really goes out the special education department and Craig Shuck for an excellent job teaching thank you Mr Shuck you are the geratst if we had a question you had the answer maye not everytime if you didnot you would send us the students to the counilor for guidance thank you for everything
Reading these 'few' but 'similar in thought' reviews has me relieved but worried. I have been new to this district for about 2 years now and I can also say that my experiences with this school's entire staff has been 'uncooperative' 'non communacative' and definetly not warm nor inviting. I thought it was just me- but I can clearly see thst it is not the case therfore I am relieved that I was not just 'imagining' things. But I am 'worried' at the treatment my son must be feeling and wondering if this is an issue that needs to be brought to the Board of Education?!.
For some reason my son likes it at Whitney I on the other hand I think they need people who actually care for the students working in the office.Example First day of last year my son hadn't come home and it was past 4pm. So I go to the school and it took over 5 minutes for someone to even acknowledge I was even there.I told them my son hadn't come home and that he was supposed to ride the bus. The respone I received was Sorry we are not responsible. I finally got an office lady to show me where they get on the bus on school property.She then left they locked the office and went home. My son was 12 new school new home and new town.I finally found him myself he had missed the bus because we hadn't received the bus number and he was still on school property. So isn't their job to help kids and parents?
They could do alot better with what they do around there! I just wish they would be nice and not so meen with everyone. They really need some help from a good school.
