California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I am a sixth grader at madison middle school. I absolutely love this school. My favorite teacher is Mr.Fennell. He is always happy and funny. My math teacher is great too. He always supports us and lets us be us. Mrs.Rose is an excellent PE teacher. My language arts teacher refuses to let us give up. Sixth graders have the right to go to dances unlike some other schools. At lunch I often wonder around. Sometimes I will walk with a friend. We have plenty of freedom at lunch. This school would not look as good without our janitors. How ever I am concerned about the landscape people. They sometimes use weed cutters or leaf blowers while we are in class. They walk through the parking lot holding chainsaws above them. They also through the clippings onto the bush when they are done and never look happy or socialize with us. The band at madison is amazing. They play all sorts of songs. A great instrument selection. Over and out. -Student.

Common Core is in and advanced math is out! Now every student will take the same dumbed down math classes. Say goodbye to Algebra 1 on this campus. Interestingly San Marcos Unified still offers advanced math classes for their middle school students but Vista prefers to keep their students at the same low level. Parents should insist that pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 be brought back so that students have the same opportunity as students from other districts!

In my short life I've attended several schools across the country. Most schools had great teachers who were always willing to adjust to my level and pace of learning. Prior to moving to California I had lived in Texas where I had many doubts of the education system. I was not far off. I went from all Pre-AP courses to basic classes that made me feel like a regular student in Special Ed. (no offense). The teachers at Madison are very prejudice and play favorites. They are so open about it that it's no real surprise. Many of them are like cops; they feel high and mighty on their power trip and abuse it to make themselves feel better. They are bullies sometimes. The material in the math and science classes is from several grade levels ago. Perhaps it's slightly more elaborated but it isn't any new concepts. Language Arts likely due to my teacher Ms. Levin is an actually enjoyable class sometimes. We debate our ideas about literature we read in class and really have good conversation. Other LA teachers are not this way however. The social aspect of Madison is good. You get to spend time with friends a lot but that isn't what school is about. Don't go to Madison Middle. -Student

Madison has great teachers. Basketaball has been a highlight for my daughter coaches are passionate about the game. Madison encourage and strive for academic excellence. One bummer though the office staff is rude. They need to work on answering the phone more politely. They need to be abit more cordial. Kids are watching people give a good example of perfessioalism. Other than that great school.

Madison Middle School has helped my son tremendously. Last year the elementary school that he attended was not so helpful and am glad he only had to be there for a year. This year he is doing so well and the teachers treat him with respect and have been so helpful. I also noticed the teachers are motivated and caring to the kid's. My son is happy this year to attend school.

What a gem in Vista school district !!. The teachers are excellent caring and motivated. In spite of large number of students from different socio- economic backgrounds the teachers are doing great job and it all shows in test scores.

My student is thriving at Madison due to excellent caring and motivating teachers. They offer a balanced cirriculum of math science language arts social studies PE etc. They offer different course choices for those students who'd prefer to try a second language asb drama yearbook band etc. The band teacher there provides positive and exceptional music instruction. We couldn't be happier.

Madison is an amazing school that really places the students as the top priority. The principal is amazing and the teachers are really dedicated to provide their very best.

This school gets great marks from me in all categories. Everyone know how intimidating middle school can be. I've been especially impressed with how the staff deals with bullying.

We came from a private school background and I was quite nervous about he level of attention but this school is brilliant all the way from the curriculum to the sports to the food served at lunch. I'm have had no regrets.

I go to this school and it is awsome. Right now I am designing the yearbook and it is the funnest class ever! They are going to paint a mural on one of the portables and are going to paint more murals on the handball courts. I even get to design the I. D. card in my yearbook class!

This is a great school. My daughter has learned so much from it. I just wish that it wasn't as packed as it is.

Madison Middle School is a decent School. The campus is nice and there arent alot of problems with the students. The Principals are good at disciplining students and the school is safe. But the Teachers there aren't very good. I've only had 2 out of all of my 12 teachers. the school also has no activities for after school. Plus it doesnt seem any parents are involved.

I love going to Madison but I tend to be ahead and I think we should move ahead in our studies! We need to be able to be in a class going our speed at least. Overall it's a great school though they should let the us have more of a choice for our classes. I can't decide over Drama Chorus Explore (skill building) or band next year!

I'm very happy with the communication between teachers and parents. Both of my son's core teachers use mygradebook.com and are responsive to any questions I have. The school is crowded but does a good job managing the student body. We are a transfer into this school because of NCLB and I am glad we made the transfer. I would like to see more extracurricular activities offered to sixth graders (most activities are only available to seventh/eighth graders) and would welcome Honors classes offered at all grade levels (which hopefully will be the case next year). I wish there were school events where parents got to know each other--it's very much more 'hands off' compared to my younger child's elementary school and the only contact we get from the PTA is when they need help for an event. Overall very pleased with this school the academic environment and the teachers.

Although I had my reservations about this school because of its large student population it has met and exceeded all my expectations.

I like the Mustang Band. I just moved to Portland in August. My school is Westview High School. I am in the Marching Band and I play the clarinet. Madison middle school is way cool and I liked going to that school for my three middle school years! They have a lot of clubs there and they have a good cirriculum. I also attended that school because it is a blue ribbon school and is one of America's best schools. It is #1 in the Vista Unified School District!
