Integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP)

In 2012-2013 Louisiana used the integrated Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (iLEAP) to assess students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 in math, English language arts, science, and social studies. The iLEAP is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Louisiana. In preparation for new assessments in 2014-15, Louisiana is including more common core aligned content in LEAP and iLEAP tests in 2012-13 and in 2013-14. The percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

The principal of the school is Bonnie Cox. Her husband is on the school board representing her school. The children & staff fear the principal. If I could home school or put my child in a private school I'd do it in a heart beat!

i love this school but i will not go to it next year because i am going to 6th grade

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL! If I could rate it in negative stars I would. There is a reason the scores for this school have drastically increased OUTSIDE THE STATISTICAL NORM. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with improved instruction in the classroom and EVERYTHING to do with the principals refusal to comply with state mandated Pupil Progression requirements and manipulation of student answers on state test. This principal has created an atmosphere of fear amongst faculty AND parents. She threatens faculty & staff with retaliation and will go so far as to fabricate allegations against parents who challenge her or question her authority. For faculty & parents alike there is no method of district or parish administrative recourse; HER HUSBAND is the School Board Representative for HER SCHOOL! But I look forward to the day the State comes in and escorts the principal out the front door!!! ** THE NAME OF THE PRINCIPAL NEEDS TO BE UPDATED. NEW PRINCIPAL APPOINTED A FEW YEARS BACK

I agree with the posts below . The 'Small Town Politics' in this school are a huge concern of ours and we have dealt with it first hand. The other parents are accurate about reporting issues to the board it will get you no where and for the reasons listed below. The parents who posted the high ratings obviously never had a disagreement with the principal. Meetings consist of her children and how you should do what she does. Don't even think about disagreeing with her. Her way or the highway. Do yourself a favor and pay for private school or move out of the district.

I've never seen anything like it. It's a horrible mess. The Principal Asst. Principal are very deceitful and cruel to children with learning disabilities. While the Principle has her child in Special Ed with help but denies this privilege to other children. You have jump through hoops of fire to get help for your child. The Principals husband works for the School Board which makes her one up I guess. It's a conflict of interest. You can't ask for a more calloused cold hearted Principal and Asst. Principal. I don't know if the staff are intimidated by them or the same caliber because what ever they want them to sign they do it. I would expect some integrity in a school with young children.

I have read the post below and would have to disagree with this school being a great place to send ones child. The conversations I have had with other parents have lead me to believe the principal is a poor leader and runs the organization on fear instead of respect. Many of the good teachers are leaving and the ones that currently work for this individual are scared to say anything because of retribution. The principal's husband is on the school board and I suspect this is the reason she is able to conduct unprofessional behavior at her school without any supervision from our school board. My spouse and I are actually considering moving out of the walker area because of the poor management and just feel my children aren't getting the education they need to be successful. While all the other schools in the parish are providing free tutoring sessions for the leap Walker Elementary did not and she fights allowing certain accommodations for children. When they are given she takes them away as soon as the child begins to do well. Things really need to change state should really look into this school. We are looking at homes in Watson and just disgusted at the schoolboard for allowing

My daughter has been going to this school for the past three years and no one at that school knows what the heck they are doing. Everyone is the office is extremely rude and uncaring. Last year my daughter's bus got suck in the mud and instead of calling the parents they waiting until parents started calling the school. It took another mother and I over an hour to reach someone and then when we finally got an answer all we heard was "if this is about blue bus call transportation. " then they hung up on us. Talk about unprofessional. I am removing my daughter from this school at the end of this school year and I urge other parents to reconsider sending their children to this nightmare that barely passes for a center of education.

I have 2 children at this school and I am not impressed at all. The principal is as rude and arrogant as she can be and could care less about helping you when it comes to anything to do with your child. You have a meeting with her and most of it is about her children. Alot of the teachers are very young and don't seem to understand that we are dealing with small children and want to punish them for every little thing that they do wrong. The older teachers who have children and/or grandchildren are alot more compassionate and caring. The homework sent home is usually disorganized and words are spelled incorrect. It's bad when a parent has to correct homework that comes home from a teacher. Don't even waste your time calling the school board. They could care less as well and tell you that the principal handles everything at the school so you are pretty much as a dead end. The teachers seem to pick their favorites and bully the others. If you move to Livingston Parish and you are in this school district I would suggest moving somewhere else.

My Children went to Walker Elementary School and Graduated in the Walker School District. I have an adopted child that also goes to WES (K-5). She is on her fifth year. Throughout the years WES has held the highest standards for my child. The Principle Secretaries Teachers and Faculty are all wonderful and dedicated to your child. I could not ask for a better school and sad that this is the last school year that my child will attend Walker Elementary. Each one of the Faculty knows every child by their name. They treat the children like family; help in any way possible to teach all children and prepare them for the next grade level. Walker Elementary School gives your child a wonderful foundation coupled with good work and social ethics to move forward with their education. The only thing I can say is teaching begins at home parenting your child is a vital part of your child s success. Honestly one of the best schools in the parish. I couldn t have asked for a better experience during all the years that my children have attended Walker Elementary School.

You can not place your child at a better school! The principal is awesome and my children academic performance has sky rocketed. Not only are scores through the roof but the school environment is a dream. The school is very decorated and clean. It has a warm and friendly environment and they truly care about my children. My children love this school and we would not want them anywhere else. We hear things at the ball field and other schools do not even compare to this school's scores teachers principal and the school's nice appearance. If you are looking for a school that cares about every child then this is your school. The principal has made a huge impact at this school and she has our support!

Amazing faculty and staff! My child attends Walker Elem. and I am very pleased. The teachers strive to help your child learn and are willing to work with them if they are struggling. The new principal is firm but fair and I appreciate that. I know my child is in a safe learning environment while I am away at work. It has been a very positive experience and I would recommend this school to any parent.

This school has declined severely in the last several years in many different areas. I know their test scores have gone up but it takes more than that to run a decent school in our opinion. We would not recommend this school.

Walker Elementary is on the right track! A parent is not going to always 'love' the teacher their child receives because of personality differences but most of the teachers at this school are fantastic! I think the technology and facility updates are because of the administration and the teachers. They love that school and the children no matter what their circumstances! This school is often forgotten by the district but look at the improvements they have made! They find their way even without all the perks! In my mind this is what educating children is all about.

The new administration is making positive changes at Walker Elementary. The teaching staff is awesome! Take a look at their test scores! The teachers are doing a wonderful job of teaching these students!

love the principal and vise principal but only a few of the teachers some of the teachers are set in some bad habits like showing favortisim

Do not judge Walker Elementary by the past. So many things have changed. Most of the teachers and the new principal are awesome. They really care about all of their students. Great school!

Walker Elementary is definitely 'moving up!' Their 2008-2009 test scores were outstanding the teachers as always are dedicated and kind and the school board is finally making needed improvments on campus. Check it out for yourself!

This school has a number of new things going on in the positive direction. For starters there is a new PE program as of 07-08 and the administration has changed. Don't judge it by the past.

My daughter is going into her third year at Walker Elementary. I am not impressed with this school. The teachers are good.... when they're there. And the subs haven't done anything with the kids. P.E. program is horrible. This school needs a LOT of improvement. Sorry.

After observing a teacher at Iberville Elem yelling at her students and making threats I couldnt handle my son being in that school any longer. I could see why his grades were suffering. We actually moved to Walker so he could attend WES. The changes have been dramatic. I dont have to fight my son to get up for school. He enjoys going and always has good things to say when I pick him up. His grades have improved from barely passing to A's and B's. WES provides at school clubs to get the kids involved which my son loves. He doesnt fight about homework anymore. He isnt always frustrated when you mention school. The staff has been wonderful to us. Its just a great school. I couldnt be happier that my son is attending. Thanks Mrs. Sibley for being a gift to Stefen!
