My daughter attended Stevenson Middle School (2012-2013 school year) as a 7th Grade Student. She was an all "A" student a member of NJHS and was placed in Advanced Math. The school did a poor job of challenging her and students in general. The administration and teaching staff are satisfied with substandard achievement for these children. I was outraged at a meeting with the principal when he was unable to provide an answer of the district's sub-par plan for preparing students for success on the ACT. The night of that meeting my husband and I decided that her only hope of competiting with other students her age would be to place her in a private school. It is the best choice we could have EVER made. Now she is being challeged to answer in "complete sentences" on homework assignments discuss current events actually dissect animals in science and read books that are higher than 5th grade level. The district needs to focus more on education and preparing our children for more than junior colleges. The district is instead concerned more about enrollment numbers and increased state dollars. Shame on you Wayne Westland School District!

Even though my son is an honor student it is not the best learning environment. There are unbalanced disciplinary actions and while I've never been one to play the race card but the principal definitely exhibits a bit of racism and has demonstrated a bit of stereotyping in his handling or mishandling of situations amongst students. I'm disenrolling my son this week. I do not recommend this school as the focus is not truly on academic growth and development. BTW I visited the office yesterday to request a report card (so I could transfer him) the office clerk/assistant or secretary (not sure of her title) gave me a blank stare as if I asked her to type me up a term paper. It was the look of "you really want me to make you a copy of the progress report that went out a month ago-what happened to the copy we mailed you." She asks in an irritated way you mean the one from November? Seriously that's a 2 minute task.

My daughter is in the 7th. grade and has had no problems whatsoever. She was a 4.0 student going into middle school and has continued to be a 4.0 student. All of her teachers have been great. Some even have sent regular weekly emails letting me know what to expect for the upcoming week. All of her teachers consistently kept Zangle up-to-date so I can always check to see what work she has and how she has done. I think this is a great school.

I'm a 7th grader here (2009-2010) and this is my second year at this school! I love it! There is no other school that i'd rather go to. There are of course some bad kid and uncool teachers but then again what school doesn't have them. I've learned how to play an instrument in orchestra learned and aced advanced math and made some awesome new friends! And I'm still lovin' it!

I think this school is pretty. I'm going in to 7th grade and only had a problem with one teacher. But why should we blame the teachers when it's mostly the childrens fault. I think that this school is very good! I don't think I would want to go to a different school!!

I am a 8th grader this year and this school is a fun school. Of course all the teachers aren't great but the rest of them do care about the students. At my old school I went from a 3.5 GPA to a 2.8 GPA. Now that I'm attending Stevenson I am back up to a 3.3 GPA. I was also on the pom team and it was great. I would recommend this school.

I took my child out of a private school and enrolled her into this one. I regret everyday that I did. This has been the worst school my child has ever been in. I agree with you they need a whole new staff. From the principal on down. I witnessed behavior from the principal that was very inappropriate. He is sending the wrong message to children. The discipline policy is not straight across the board for all the students. I have two other children who will not even walk through the doors of this school.

Some good teachers many bad ones. I know teachers don't have it easy but these don't even try. My child has been harassed sworn at and teased not by the students but by the teachers! They need to clean house from the principal on down totally out of touch with todays youth.

Some teachers really need to retire and treat the students like people and bark at them like dogs or worse.

I have been very dissapointed in the faculty of this school from the principal on down their styles are antiquated and not relatable. The only time I get any information is when my student does something wrong. The website is rarely updated and the snail-mailer that is sent out is usaully 2 weeks behind. I would have sent my kids to another middle school if I had a way to transport them home.

My daughter just completed 7th grade. She ended 6th grade Fall semester with a 3.9 GPA and no discipline problems. It's been downhill ever since. I do fault the faculty mightily for one thing zero communication with parents and zero interest in communicating with parents. Teachers rely on paper diaries that they expect students to document homework assignments and test announcements for parents to review. They are worthless but the teachers and admins have zero interest in providing direct communication to parents; even the website stays out-of-date so interested parents must rely on pieces of paper delivered by students (reliability low) or the US mail to know about events. No luck knowing today what assignments that your kids received their latest homework or returned test grade current gpa etc.

Overall after the improvements the building is much improved the equipment (sport computer band instruments etc) need to be updated badly. The school has some (few) very good and dedicated teachers unfortunently it also has some that just don't give a hoot about our children.
