Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA)

In 2011-2012 Pennsylvania used the Pennsylvania System of State Assessments (PSSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 in math and reading, in grades 5, 8 and 11 in writing, and in grades 4, 8 and 11 in science. The results for reading, writing and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles. The PSSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Pennsylvania. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

Recently found that students and staff don't have administration's respect. The old adage you have to give to receive applies here. Don't expect your child to grow as a person in this environment. Truly disappointed to find that what the community says turns out to be true. Academics count but if kids are treated like a number they will learn no one cares about them and return the favor. Of course there are a few kids whose parents really take the time so this does not apply to the whole school but it certainly applies to more than it should. Congratulations to those staff that care and manage to survive in Whitehall school district. Since all the posts below are old I guess apathy goes hand in hand with the attitude. From a really sad grandmother.

Enjoyed my time at WHS. Students should try to be with the happy and supportive groups of students that are typically in the music and honors programs. Many science class offerings highlight the school's focus. Students are mostly outgoing and have good relations with teachers however some loud behavior is apparent through hallways and buses. Teachers are not too strict but welcoming if you respect them. Although neighboring Parkland and CCHS have better reputations WHS has a balance of size and diversity.

Send your child here if you want him or her to be guaranteed to have a juvenile record before they finish school thanks to their "Zero Tolerance" policies. No consideration of cirmcumstances whatsoever. So much for their anti-bullying stance. If the bully is beating up your kid your kid gets a citation and an out of school suspension for being on the receiving end of the blows. What a great school! I regret bringing my kid back into the system from cyber school.

I am a new mathematics teacher at Whitehall High School. I've been welcomed warmly by the staff and the students. It's a wonderful school!

As a student at Whitehall since K (now going to 11th grade) I can say that I am happy with it. It's become more strict over the years but what school hasnt? There are alot more AP classes offered and the techers really know what they are talking about. They are constantly taking more classes to improve their knowledge. There are many science courses to choose from. Whitehall prepares you with writing. Alot of different clubs/activities and sports to chose from

whitehall is a good school wiht good extra-curricular programs the teachers are good and try to help alot and encourage you but i find it ironic that too many of the students fail.

WHS School in Whitehall is probably one of the top schools in Pennsylvania. Recently in 2008 studies have shown Parkland's scores average 83% for 9th Grade Math and WHS got 92%! It is incredibly good school with good teachers

I do not enjoy writing bad things but Whitehall is a very terrible school. Way too strict teachers have favorites no free time what so ever and poor saftey

As a teacher in another 'High rated' district and having sent my children to Catholic grade school Whitehall-Coplay school district is a breath of fresh air. It seems that most of the teachers like what they do and do it well they are professional and it's apparent that many have their Masters+ degree. The courses are challenging and diverse. The school district is very community-oriented and it has provided my children with an awareness of the community they live it which was/is so lacking in Catholic school. Overall it's been an extremely positive experience for my entire family. I would recommend this school district to anyone.

Just so-so. As of 2002 there were only 3 AP courses offered. The school administration seemed mostly interested in passing kids through the system. They spent much time encouraging votech programs over college prep. Send your kids to Parkland or CCHS rather than Whitehall.

A great school with quality teachers who know their content.

The academic programs are good and the teachers show concern. You can either be emailed or called if your child is not doing well in school. The teachers are very helpful and the vocational technical institue that they are bused to gives them an outlet to different mediums. Sports is readily available and the coaches are helpful in involving your child. The parents are very involved with the booster club and hosting events to raise money for school uniforms and trips.

I went to Whitehall (c/o 2000) and I feel like I was sufficiently prepared for college in a writing way much stronger writer than many college classmates. But there weren't many AP course offerings. Lots of GREAT science classes and teachers. Tons of extracurriculars good school in all.

I find Whitehall-Coplay School District to be a very excellent school district. It is not to big nor too small. The test scores are very good. The faculty is caring and well educated. Socially it is a very good school as well and has excellent diversity. Athletically it is also a good school. I would recommend this school over any in the Lehigh Valley area... they produce top academic students everyear.

First of all writing negative reviews is not something I enjoy doing. But attending WHS was really disappointing and I think the worst academic experience. Teachers whom lack basic skills in their subjects non-challenging courses 'favortism' bad attitudes and one completely ignorant close-minded student body is what your children will probably see if attending WHS sometime in the future.
