Overview
ActiveRain is a technology company that focuses on the real estate space, operating out of Bellevue, WA.
In 2004 ActiveRain LMS was formed as an enterprise level lead management platform. This provides real estate agents, loan offices, and companies with an efficient way to manage and convert Internet-generated leads. With this program, the company is not trying to change existing business models, but rather sell platforms to augment existing ones.
In June 2006, the ActiveRain Real Estate Network was formed, which is a free online community for real estate professionals, run on behalf of its members. The goal is to create a resource of information and ideas for real estate professionals and their clients by connecting peers all over the country.
To be a part of ActiveRain Real Estate Network you must join, which is free. Once you join, you can create a Real Estate Profile. The Internet presence is indexed and ranked by search engines, thus increasing your potential exposure opportunities. You can then begin networking and sharing ideas with other real estate professional in the U.S. and Canada. As a member you can also take advantage of free communication tools such as a personalized blog and forums. Creating a profile can be used to augment and direct traffic to your existing Web site.
ActiveRain Real Estate Network has a scoring system it uses to reward contributing members. The more points you have, the more heavily promoted your profiles will be on the network. The concept is to reward members to contribute to building the community.

ActiveRain has said on their Web site that they plan on keeping the network as a free resource for both real estate professionals and consumers. In the future, they plan on adding additional value added services for members, which may come at a cost. In the meantime, the core way they make money is supplying their lead management technology to top brokerages in the county.
