Create Your Own Estimate

June 13, 2011

Please note that the MyEstimate tool will be unavailable until further notice while we make improvements to the product and the underlying algorithms. We understand that this feature is an important tool for our homeowners and are working hard to get this back up-and-running as quickly as possible. We're confident that the wait will be worth it! Please hang in there with us.

Thanks for your patience!

My Estimate -- What is it?

My Estimate is a tool anyone can use -- for free -- to create your own home valuation estimate. Use it to fine-tune your home's value -- or anyone else's.

Why Use it?
  • Selling a home -- Help set and validate your selling price. Then make your estimate viewable to the public so buyers can see how you arrived at your price.
  • Buying a home -- Help figure out a fair market value so you don't pay too much. Enter the home's unique features, work with the comps, and determine an offer price.
  • Owning a home -- Keep track of your most precious asset -- your home -- by logging information into the tool and then getting an updated value. Updates to your home facts may affect your home's Zestimate value.
  • Remodeling plans -- See how your home's value would improve with the addition you've always wanted. Plug in the numbers and see the results!

My Estimate FAQs

What do I do with My Estimate once I'm done?

You can:
  • Make it public for others to see - especially if you're selling your home
  • Keep it private by storing it in a My Zillow account
  • Share it with friends through e-mail
  • Print out the summary sheet of My Estimate
How do I make My Estimate public (or private)?

Once you have claimed your home, you can make your estimate public in two ways:
  • My Zillow - Within My Zillow, click the "Favorite Homes" link in the left-hand corner. Your home will appear at the top of the page (unless you re-sorted the order). Click the "My estimate" link. This will take you to the saved estimate worksheet. Click the "Edit Estimate" button. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where we ask "Are you the owner of this home?" and select "Yes". You will then be asked if you'd like to publish your estimate. If you want your estimate to be public, select "yes"; if you want it to be private, select "no".
  • Home details page - Sign in to Zillow.com, then enter your address in the search box to get to your home details page. Once you open your home details page, click "Owner's Estimate". This will take you to the saved estimate worksheet. Click the "Edit Estimate" button. Scroll down to where it says "Are you the owner of this home?" and select "Yes". You will now be asked if you'd like to publish your estimate. Adjust your preference accordingly.
Can I create an estimate for anyone's home?
Yes. Just type in an address for any home in the search box. Once you get to the home details page, click "Create an estimate." Or click "Save as favorite" to do it later. Since this is not your home, the estimate will be saved in your "My Zillow" account under Favorite Homes.

I created My Estimate. Why hasn't my Zestimate value changed?

Updates to your home facts will be factored into your homes Zestimate. However, your Zestimate may not change if the updates are not significant enough to impact the home's value. Also, if your home has characteristics that are unique in your area, we may not be able to factor them into the valuation. If your Zestimate does change, it may take some time before its reflected on the site.

How do I update My Estimate?

You must be signed in to your account in order to update your estimate. Once you are signed in, there are a couple of options:
  • My Zillow - Go to My Zillow and under "Favorite Homes," locate the home with the estimate you want to change. Click the "My estimate" link. This will take you to the saved My Estimate worksheet. Click the "Edit Estimate" button.
  • Home details page - Sign in to Zillow. Then enter your address in the search box to get to your home details page. Once you open your home details page, click the "Owner's Estimate" link, which will take you to the saved My Estimate worksheet.
When you update an estimate, you will be taken to the My Estimator tool. All of the information you previously entered will be pre-filled. Once you update the information, it will overwrite the old estimate and give you a new one.

How do I delete My Estimate?

You must be signed in to your account in order to delete. Once you are signed in, there are a couple of options:
