Differences of REALTORS and Real Estate Agents?

REALTOR® and Real Estate Agents have and do many of the same activities for buyers and sellers.  Both are licensed by the state in which they provide services. Both take pre-licensing classes.

The biggest difference is that REALTORS® have to abide by The REALTOR® Code of Ethics We must be honest and forthright in all transactions whether acting as a buyer's agent or seller's agent and with all other real estate practioners.  We must also put the best interests of our clients over our own and we must be truthful in all communication with the public. (Note: So do Real Estate Agents... unless they want to live with lawsuits!)

The actual code contains 17 articles and can be viewed on the above link.  To view the " REALTOR® Pledge of Performance and Service" please click the link.

We must complete a refreshers course every four years on the code of ethics to remain a REALTOR®.
