The Village of Glencoe is the northernmost North Shore suburb in Cook County.

The population of Glencoe has shrunk over time from its peak of over 10,000 to a 2005 Census Bureau estimate of 7,890.

The demographics of Glencoe mirror much of the North Shore. In 2005 the median family income was $218,535. Forty percent of the 25 adult population has earned a college degree, and another 40 percent a graduate degree. Ninety-five percent of the population is white, 2 percent African-American, just under 2 percent Asian and 1.2 percent Hispanic / Latino.

Religion

In part due to a history of religious discrimination in other North Shore suburbs, Glencoe became home to a significant Jewish population in the middle decades of the twentieth century.

In addition to a variety of churches, Glencoe is home to North Shore Congregation Israel. Its soaring sanctuary, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, attracts many visitors.

Housing stock

For current market information, see the Glencoe Snapshot at Trulia.

Glencoe has a higher percentage of its housing stock (approximately 15 percent) in multi-family buildings than Wilmette, Kenilworth or Winnetka, and a higher percentage of homes that were built after World War II.
