Like much of the Greater Phoenix Arizona metropolitan area, Glendale Arizona has undergone widespread changes over the past several years.
Over the past three years, Glendale, AZ, has become the home of the National Football League's Arizona Cardinals, the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes and the Arizona Sting of the National Lacrosse League.
In January, University of Phoenix stadium will be the site of both the Fiesta Bowl, relocated for the first time from Arizona State University in Tempe, and the first-ever Bowl Championship Series national championship game. And in 2008, Glendale will play host to Super Bowl XLII.
Glendale's Jobing.Com Arena had been slated to be the site of the 2005 NHL All-Star game, but the game was canceled due to the NHL lockout.
For those who prefer shopping bags to pigskins, Glendale also is the home of the Arrowhead Towne Center and surrounding power centers and restaurants. And the newly-built Westgate project, surrounding both University of Phoenix Stadium and Jobing.Com Arena, also provides a wide variety of stores and restaurants from which to choose.
Glendale boasts a diverse selection of neighborhoods for its residents, from historic Catlin Court in the city's original downtown to Arrowhead Ranch across the Loop 101 corridor and Sonoran Mountain Ranch in the city's far northern reaches.
