Standards of Learning End-of-Course (SOLEOC)

In 2013-2014 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) End-of-Course tests to assess students in reading, writing, math, science and history/social science subjects at the end of each course, regardless of the student's grade level. The SOL End-of-Course tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia. High school students must pass at least six SOL End-of-Course tests to graduate. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

James Wood High School is by far the best school in the Northwestern District. As a graduate many years ago with parents and siblings who also graduated successfully I feel my opinion could be viewed as slightly bias. Overall some of the reviews I read below seem very harsh and written by individuals who had bad social experiences during their time at this school. It's high school though none are perfect and have their social issues. During my time attending this high school there seemed to be a true sense of unity among the student body and that unity can also be seen today around town. The teachers and administrators of this fine school have always gone the extra mile to help in many circumstances that I've personally had the pleasure of witnessing. As a successful graduate who went on to the college of my choice graduate with honors and get hired immediately out of college I truly can contribute some of that success to this great school. I'll always have my colonel pride.

James Wood High School is very good. Most of the students are very good but there are some who aren't. But you find that in other high schools too. Most of the teachers are there for the students. They are willing to come in before school and stay after if you need help. The administrators and the teachers really want the students to graduate. I feel like James Wood is the county's best high school.

The students and teachers alike are very disrespectful. The teachers act as immaturely as the students and will judge you based on what activities you do or don't do. Not only was it one huge popularity contest with all of your peers it seemed like a good deal of the educators were also there to appear "cool" rather than to mediate and help ease potential conflicts I.e. bullying. If you weren't into a sport and didn't wear hollister or American eagle clothes you should count yourself out of any possible social life with seemingly normal students. There were many mentally diseased teenagers running around this school. They did things such as "cutting" suicide attempts physically threatening other students and a good number of students from James wood were put into mental wards. I am a four year student of james wood and I highly suggest putting your teen in a school that doesn't run out of lunches by last period lunch. You should stay as far away as possible from this 'mental institute'. After what I have seen and endured from going to school I can safely say I will never return for any reason nor would I let my child attend this high school. **recent graduate**

The teachers are biased depending on what activities your involved in. Its a very laissez faire attitude when it comes to bullying and taking control of situations.

I have two children who have attended James Wood HS and with the outstanding educational staff both have exceeded in there educational goals. James Wood staff takes an individual interest in each students educational needs and works with them to see them excell. The Principal staff and parents are all top-notch! The Athetic Association and Football program really enhance the James Wood sports. We left Fairfax County school district in order for our children to recieve an exceptional eduction in Frederick County...and to be able to enjoy the beauty of the area without the rat race;)

The school and teachers are great. The students have a lot of disrespect for each other. The band director knows what he is doing and is great. All together this school is a good school.

James Wood is Great their football program is the best around - I have a junior and freshman that play and they love the coaches. The team spirit and team loyalty is really instilled in them.

i am/was/kind of a freshman at james wood (in an alternative school now) i was treated very unfairly by students and teachers alike. i am absolutely in love with the band the director is amazing he knows what a marching band is all about and he wants it right. he is brutal about it but thats the way its supposed to be. on the other hand all of the students in the band shun anyone whos different or dont get along with many people. kind of like the rest of the school. the students love to gossip and spread rumors about everyone especially the kids who are different. if you dont have a group of friends to be with all the time youre screwed. im sure i experienced this partially just because of the way i am personally but i found it very wrong and upsetting and no one deserved that
