This is a great school my son is in first grade and enjoys this program he has a nice teacher and every day he progress is amazing.
I have two daughters in this school one is in 4th grade the other is in 3rd grade. They both are doing very well and love there teachers dearly. The school is not over crowded and students have a better student teacher ratio. I love this school I would have gave it five stars but the funding in the Yonkers school district is so bad that to many programs are not offered anymore.
My son has been attending this school from Pre-K till 4th Grade ! He loves his teachers adores his classmates and enjoys his classes. The teachers are very involved with the academic record of the students. The Principal has maintained a decorum of discipline in this school. I hope this school receives the funding to achieve the academic excellence it maintains and strives for. The uniqueness of this school is the Montessori system in a public school setting and the student teacher ratio is far better than some schools nearby
I've had a child finish the Pearls program and now I have one in this school. The results from Montessori 27 were better . My child has learned much more in this school than my other child did in the same grades at Pearls. This is a great way to educate children if the method works with their personality.
I agree this is a great school. I had a bad experience with a teachers pedagogy early on but I am happy with the teaching styles since.
I definitely agree with the other parents; Montessori 27 is a wonderful school! My daughter is entering the second grade and she loves it as well. She is very knowledgable for her age and she is definitely advanced in Reading. Her friends are all mixed so she's able to learn about different cultures. This school has also strengthened her love of plants and animal life. There is also a very strong PTA presence. I can only hope at some point that this school get more funding so it can offer more activities.
Our child has made incredible progress since coming to Montessori 27 learning to read and write. We feel confident about the teachers and the administration. Very caring and supportive atmosphere. I would definately recommend it to other families. A hidden gem in Yonkers.
I feel very lucky to have found this school. Not only does my daughter love it there she has also made an incredibly fast progress within their program. Kids are paired in classes (PreK & K 1st & 2nd grade etc.) and this seems to work very well. The Montessori teaching method is admirable and I cannot believe that I did not know about it before my daughter came to this school. Montessori 27 gets a higher school rating score than P.S. 24 Spuyten Duyvil School or P.S. 81 rated as one of the best public schools in NYC (source www.psk12.com). With 350 students and strong parent involvement this place is truly special. My daughter has just entered the 1st grade and within these 2 months she has already begun reading and writing!
Excellant is an under statement. By far the best school in Yonkers!
This school has been fantastic for my son. His class learned to read in Pre-k and by the end of kindergarten he was learning fractions. He was a very shy boy at the beginning and is now bursting with confidence. He knows all of the teachers and most of the students. He hates to miss school or any of the events offered. It has been a great experience so far.
I have found that this school is very attentive to the students offering a helping hand whenever necessary. The students get homework everyday fromt he very first day they step in the class. The children now only learn academics but also learn manners and responcability. The staff is wonderful everyone from the nurse teacher's aids to the principal. I am more than happy with my decision to place my daughter in this school and would recommend it for other parents to do the same and fight to get their children in this school for the city's school system in horrible and it is refreshing to know that at least there are some schools that can still function correctly and efficiently even with the city leaders trying to knock them down.
Overall good caring teachers. Test scores are good for the school. Unfortunately there are very limited extracurricular activities music art and sports due to the lack of funding in Yonkers Level of parent involvement is pretty high and it's a small enough school that it does feel like a nice community.
