One Family or Tree Family Building “The Castle”
The house at 1021 Richmont St, Scranton, PA 18509 is known as “The Castle”. It was built in
1900, by a famous architect for his private residence. This architect also built the Town Hall and
the Town Court in Scranton. He built many other uniquely beautiful buildings in Scranton as
well.
“The Castle” has four floors including basement. The building is located on a one-way street
with three property lots and a parking lot for 10 cars. The house was purchased in 2002 and was
converted from a three-family to a single-family home, according to the architect's original
drawings without changing the engineering design.
The brick wall from the foundation to the roof is more than a foot thick; it is lined with large
stones specifically cut for the walls of the building. The exact same stones were used in the
construction of the Town Hall and the Town Court in Scranton.
The renovation projects of this building included: new electrical commercial wiring, new
plumbing, new sheetrock, staircase, new water system, new roof which was installed with new
shingles, two air conditioning units, and a new kitchen. More than $600,000 were spent on this
entire renovation. The Professional License Engineering Report, which was done recently, can
confirm this information. There is permission from the City Planning Board to change this
building from one family to three family rentals.
The title is clean, and a mortgage has been paid off in full a long time ago.
The building needs a final finish on the inside and the outside.
