2 story home build in 1920's, very solid with level floors. We gutted it to studs in 1973 and essentially rebuilt in the frame. Insulated, plumbing installed, wiring installed, all new windows, walls, flooring, rm arrangement. My exhusband is a master carpentar and we built our dreams. In 1985 we added on the living rm, 2nd bthrm, utility area, and 28x28 garage with full loft in barnshaped design. In 2000 we redid the FR and added two bumped out 7' bay windows with window seats and storage drawers underneath, filing drawers, storage closet, and computer desk on east wall--colorful and functional. As his contruction business grew, he built a 36'x36' two story shed in the shape of a barn with two 9'x11' sliding metal doors on front and concrete floor. He used this for oversized work truck, concrete forms, tools, material storage, and workshop. Along the way he had also built the gazebo in front of our home and the tennis/basketball court for our active family.
Neighborhood Description
Surrounded by farmland and woods. Nearest house is barely visible in summer with trees surrounding tennis court.
Great school district with Fieldon Elementary Grade School having smaller classes than other district elementary schools.
Illini Junior High divdes students into smaller sections and stay in those sections with their teachers. Their group of teachers worked with their group--except band and chorus. Better familiarity between staff and students. The system strives to improve every year.
Jersey Community High School is in a brand new building of 2 or 3 years. The band/choral/theatre depts work really well together and give the students excellent training in these areas. Sports don't take a back seat either. Four of my children have done very well at college with the ed background from Jersey Community Unit 100.
There are several options for summer activities. The community park on the northeast side of Jerseyville has a new swimming pool with different pools for different capabilities/ages. They have kids soccer teams, and softball leagues. There is also a Jerseyville Country Club which has a nice open room, a smaller swimming pool, and a golf course. Both pools offer Red Cross swimming lessons. Another public golf course opened several years ago and is another popular site. Both are on the northwest side of town.
There are also a number of 4-H Clubs, Girl Scouts Clubs, and Boy Scouts Clubs.
This has been a great area to raise my children in.
Less than an hour away from St. Louis.
Hope to meet you in the near future!
