Here at Zillow Group we are committed to helping everyone find their way home. And by everyone, we really mean everyone. As we expand our platform to make it easier than ever to manage your rentals, we also want to ensure that each person who interacts with you and your property is treated fairly and respectfully. We value the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our community members, and we are dedicated to making sure that they can find their next home and use our Zillow Rental Manager tools regardless of their background or membership in a protected class.
As part of our efforts, we’re formalizing our commitment to fairness with the Respectful Renting Pledge to help guide how renters need to be treated while using our tools. It’s a simple set of guidelines that says as property managers and landlords using our platform to reach your renters, you agree to comply with fair housing laws, to treat all rental applicants equally and with respect, and to be honest and use good judgment. Above all, you agree to treat others as you would like to be treated. While using our platform, you cannot decline to rent to or treat an applicant differently because of their background or membership in a protected class, and you cannot post a listing discouraging application from or indicating a preference for certain types of applicants. You are also not allowed to use discriminatory, abusive, obscene or threatening language with an applicant.
The bottom line is: Treat all applicants with fairness and respect. Keep in mind that we may restrict access to the platform from anyone we feel has treated someone unfairly.
We look forward to streamlining the rental application process with great tools and clear guidelines for fair and respectful treatment of everyone.
