January Case-Shiller Forecast: Expect Recent Acceleration in Home Price Growth to Continue

The acceleration in annual home price appreciation experienced in December in all three major Case-Shiller indices is expected to continue into January, according to Zillow’s January Case-Shiller forecast.

The January Case-Shiller national index is expected to grow 6 percent year-over-year and 0.5 percent from December, up from 5.8 percent annual growth recorded in November but down somewhat from 0.7 percent monthly growth in December. The smaller 10- and 20-city indices are both expected to grow by 0.7 percent month-over-month (SA), slower than the 0.9 percent monthly growth recorded in December. On an annual basis, the 10- and 20-city indices are expected to grow by 5.1 percent and 5.7 percent in January, respectively, up from 4.9 percent and 5.6 percent in November.

Zillow’s January Case-Shiller forecast is shown in the table below. These forecasts are based on today’s December Case-Shiller data release and the January 2017 Zillow Home Value Index. The January S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Indices will not be officially released until Tuesday, March 28.
