Survey: Agents Use Lots of Tools, Especially This One

93% of agents rely on multiple tools for work. CRMs and digital lockboxes are widely used, but not as much as a certain marketing tool.

According to one estimate, there are over 9,000 proptech companies across the world.

For agents, so much choice is a blessing and a curse. In the second installment of our agent trends series, here’s what over 300 of your peers had to say about how many tools they use, what they rely on most, and what benefits they’re looking for from tech.

Social media tools top the list

Social media is table stakes now for most agents: 84% said they use a social tool in a typical week. Those consistently posting on social platforms can gain an advantage over other agents. In our 2025 report, 44% of buyers claimed they’re more likely to hire an agent active on social media. That’s especially true for millennial buyers — 51% said they’re more likely to hire an agent active on social.

Other tools get a lot of use as well, particularly those that make life easier on clients, such as eSignature tools, digital lockboxes, and virtual tours. However, more agents may want to look into eNotary tools for their clients. In 2024, 41% of buyers said they would ideally use remote or mobile notary options to complete closing.

When it comes to virtual tours, veteran agents are more likely to offer them to clients than newer agents. In a typical week, only 34% of agents with less than five years of experience used a virtual tour tool, compared to 57% of agents with five to 14 years of experience and 62% of agents with at least 15 years of experience.

Cost isn’t the most important consideration

When agents decide whether to invest in a tool, cost matters, but it’s usually not the most important consideration. That would be ease of use.

Ease of use is even more critical to independent agents: 39% say it’s their most important consideration when evaluating new tools. Agents on teams, meanwhile, are more likely than independent agents to focus on integrations with other tools (21%) and time savings (19%).

Multiple tools are a must for most agents

Our research shows that 93% of agents use multiple tools. Most agents (54%) work with 2-4 tools, and 39% use five or more tools, including 10% with 10 or more tools.

Agents seem to be searching for that sweet spot where they benefit from a few impactful solutions without needing to spend too much time or money integrating them into their daily workflow.
