The unit for rent is the ground floor of a 2-story house. It is brand new. Nobody has ever lived there before!
This house is in the back of a lot that has another house on it. We (the owners) live in the front house.
The unit includes exclusive access to a private deck on the ground floor that connects seamlessly to the kitchen with a huge door that folds and slides fully out of the way.
The unit includes shared access to a deck on the roof with views of Mount Tam (on a clear day, it was foggy when we took the photo!)
We built the house thinking we might move into it one day, so we chose a fairly high quality design and finishing materials that we think are beautiful and functional rather than trying to spend as little as possible. Some notable features:
The house is generally filled with light due to having big windows in every room.
Heating and air conditioning, with independent zones in every room.
The bathroom has heated floors.
In-unit full size washer and dryer.
Induction stove-top.
High end, very quiet dishwasher.
The lights are amazing:
High color-reproduction index (CRI) meaning they don't make your space look strangely green like cheap lights do.
Warm dimming, meaning you can dim pretty much every light and when it dims the color changes to be more orange, which feels cozy and also helps trigger sleepiness at night.
Almost everything in the house can be controlled via a smart home app such as Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri, including the lights, the heating / cooling, and most of the appliances.
Outdoor storage unit.
The neighborhood:
5 minute walk to Ashby BART station.
14 minute walk to Berkeley Bowl grocery store and Walgreens pharmacy.
7 minute walk to Red Bay Coffee.
10 minute walk from South Berkeley Farmer's Market (imo the best Berkeley farmer's market, Tuesday afternoons).
Right across the street from an elementary school. Outside school pick-up and drop-off times, the street is generally very quiet.
Free street parking that is generally not hard to find if you park before or after the school day.
Lots of parks within walking distance.
Please note:
Landscaping is currently being planned. There will be a bit of noise for a week or two this summer when that work happens, but it should make the outdoor space much nicer.
No smoking in the house or on the property.
Internet is included in the rent (a shared gigabit fiber plan with the front house). If this is insufficient you can pay for your own connection.
No other utilities are included.
