    What's special

Sits on two acresBright and tidy apartmentCharm and easeWonderful set of gardensGreat lightAmple yard spaceThree season room
This bright and tidy apartment was originally an addition -- what is known as a Mother-in-Law apartment -- to the main house. I believe it was built in the 1980's. The main house was built in 1799. The apartment, a popular Airbnb rental in the summer, has been recently renovated, but not in that cold, sterile way you find in some Airbnbs rather, it has a great deal of charm and ease. Beautiful views of the sky out of the bay window. I have spent hours watching the clouds pass. In addition to the bedroom, there is what Mainers called a "three season room." It is beautiful but uninsulated. You can definitely get use out of it in the fall and early spring, but in the winter it is hardly welcoming. Though it does offer spectacular views of the backyard when it snows! There is plenty of parking. The property sits on two acres and receives great light. There is ample yard space and a wonderful set of gardens: the yard has been landscaped with native species and lovingly cultivated. We replaced a large lawn with a meadow to attract pollinators. This home is also very private. There is one set of neighbors (who are great) across the street, and they are happy to leave you alone-- thought they will also help you out in a pinch. The main house is also a rental, offering three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main house and the apartment have separate entrances. The best thing about this property is how it is secluded and yet close to anything you might need. Portland is a 15-minute drive away. (For example, I would often go to Portland several times a day and think nothing of it.) There are several trails and beaches on which to walk your dogs or take a walk (or run) by yourself. The house is about 10 - 15 minutes from two grocery stores, the mall, a Costco, and the airport. Above all, it is quiet. The road in front of the house can get a little zippy. (What once was a country road is now a popular road that seems to invite speeding given its scenic and winding nature.) If you're into literature, help yourself. You'll find he majority of my personal library on the bookshelves in the bedroom upstairs. As a collection, it's eclectic, mostly focused on poetry, all 3,500 volumes, unalphabetized (don't judge!). I think you have to see this apartment to understand what's special about it. I lived in it for a year while the main house was being renovated and never once felt cramped. Indeed, I didn't even miss the main house! I vouch for its good vibes. I'm happy to take you on a zoom tour of the property if you're interested. It's a great space and I aim to make it reasonably priced by including all utilities. We pay for utilities with the understanding that you will be mindful to not unnecessarily use electricity or heat to excess by wearing warm clothes during the winter and turning the heat down when you are not home. Smoking is fine as long as it happens outside.
