It is fully stocked with dishes, glassware, pots and pans, etc. The large kitchen window looking down over the swimming pool keeps that room from getting too hot during cooking. The living room is furnished with a dining table that comfortably sits four, a sofa and chairs, side tables and lamps, a bookcase and a coffee table. There are large windows and a sliding glass door onto the balcony. The balcony contains an all-weather sofa and coffee table and a table and chairs for outdoor dining. The table is the same size as the one inside, allowing the two to be put together to accommodate larger gatherings. The main bedroom has a queen-size bed with side tables and lamps, built-in storage and closets and a cupboard with bedding and towels. The second bedroom, which can also be used as an office, has a futon that opens into a queen-size bed, a desk, and built-in storage. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and air-conditioners. The main bathroom, accessible from a hallway that serves both bedrooms, includes a walk-in shower, an extractor fan and a timer-based heated towel rail. The half-bathroom is off the second bedroom and has a window. Luquillo’s old town, which includes a tree-shaded plaza, an historic church, a beach bar and restaurants, is only a 10-minute walk along the beach or road. To the West, El Yunque rainforest is 20 minutes away, San Juan airport is 45 minutes, and Old San Juan is an hour. There are a supermarket and a pharmacy a five-minute drive or 10-minute walk from the apartment, and there are several other supermarkets and shopping malls within a short drive. Playa Azul is a set of three 22-story condominium buildings originally constructed in the 1960s. Building One is the one that is most in demand, both because it is right next to the beach and because its management and elected board of directors are widely regarded as the most effective. The three buildings share a very large swimming pool plus small kids’ pool, a tennis/pickleball court, a basketball court and a community center. Owners and their visitors can park at no charge in the parking lot in front of the building. There are security staff 24 hours a day both at the entrance to the parking lot and in the lobby of each building. Building One has a large help-yourself library. Long beach walks are available starting from the building’s beach gate; these are enjoyed by many residents of all ages, alone and with friends. Weather throughout the year is extremely consistent; there is no period when it’s too hot or too cold for using the balcony or enjoying the beaches. The owners of Building One’s apartments are a congenial mix of English-speaking and Spanish-speaking full-time and part-time residents. Many of the part-timers rent out their apartments for short-term Airbnb-style lets while they are absent. The building’s management does not impose restrictions regarding such rentals.
