    What's special

Built in the 1920's from locally felled Ponderosa Pine, this historic cabin sits on leased Pike National Forest land. A creek runs 75-feet in front of the cabin. The lease renews every 20-years. While there's some down-side to a lease, the up-side is serenity, privacy, and the knowledge the neighborhood will never change due to Forest Service stewardship - all property owners must maintain a natural, low impact environment and blend into the surroundings. Neighborhood Description Moderately narrow canyon with a dirt road for access, the cabin is 1/2 mile from county road maintenance (improved gravel road). There's solitude but still only 25-minutes from downtown Colorado Springs, and only 7-8 minutes from shopping in Woodland Park. Tbout 20 summer homes in Crystola Summer Home Group. Small canyon with a year-round creek that flows in front of the cabin, about 75-feet away from the front door. These cabins were mostly built in the 1920s through 1940s and are on leased government land. The 20-year leases were renewed in 2008. The forest service maintains the dirt road. While there are some disadvantages to leased Pike National Forest land (lack of ownership carries obvious risk), there are some significant benefits: the area is totally stable meaning it cannot be altered as new leases are no longer offered. Second, the Forest Service asks the owners to keep the properties free of debris and unregistered vehicles, a typical aesthetic issue in remote areas. Finally, these parcels are on Pike National Forest - the owners have easy access to the Forest and wildlife (elk, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, eagles, etc). These cabins are wonderful opportunities to enjoy pristine solitude without tremendous expense.
