One of the earliest houses, as seen in early panoramas, constructed on the brow of the Santa Monica Canyon watchfully overlooking State Beach and the Pacific. Originally built by Edmund Goulding, a prominent English-born MGM Movie director, the house subsequently appealed to equally creatively, successful occupants including a Nobel prize winner, screen writers an d actors who preferred to live on the beach than in town. The floor plan of the house allows a glimpse into more formal times. The main level connects a grand living room, family room, game room and a bar. The lower level encompass the kitchen, butlers pantry, a potential staff bedroom and bath, a formal dining room and charming breakfast room all leading to the outdoors. The top level has four spacious bedrooms including the master suite facing the beach. A spiral staircase leads to the tower room perched above the whole canyon offering a wonderful get-a-way. Most every room on the top three tears faces unobstructed views of the ocean. Separate from the main house is another room originally utilized as chauffeurs quarters plus a roomy one bedroom guest house. This historical residence was most recently restored in the mid nineties.
