The Sellwood House Apartments was built in 1907 as a convent for the nuns of the nearby St. Francis Church. It's a lot less nunny and conventy now. Remodeled in 2007 with eco-friendliness in mind, each apartment has bamboo floors, no-VOC paint, Caroma dual-flush toilets, and much more. $1395/mo on a 12 month lease includes: Water, sewer, garbage, hot water, heat, gas, electric, parking, and storage. You will see much "cheaper" studios in Portland, but they don't tell you about hidden fees like "utility bill-back" or "pet rent" or "transaction charges." At the Sellwood House, you write one check and it covers everything. We don't charge cat rent, utility fees, or any other garbage. This single-occupancy studio is on the top floor (2nd) and faces north and east. It's nice and bright. It has a full bathroom, huge kitchen, and 2 walk-in closets. In the basement you'll find a laundry room, bike rack, and your own personal 50 sq ft storage unit (again, this is included in the rent). Mailboxes are on the first floor, and I try to keep a well-stocked basket of snacks in the lobby as well. Off-street parking is first-come, first-served but there's usually a space. If not, street parking is plentiful and there are no permits, meters, or time limits. We're 3 blocks from the MAX station which makes for easy commuting to OHSU or downtown. Also easy access to the Ross Island Bridge and Interstate 5. The Sellwood House is a small apartment building with only 11 apartments. When you have a question or a maintenance issue, you just text/call me. You don't have to go through a phone tree in California or China to talk to someone. We are on a quiet street but just over a block from Milwaukie Boulevard so it's easy to walk to coffee/bars/shopping. Sorry, no dogs.
