    What's special

This stately Italianate w/Greek Revival & Gothic elements, known to many as Morelands, was built in the late 1850's for Leander A. Plummer, a New Bedford native & founder of the New Bedford Cordage Company. The interior boasts unique features such as chestnut floors, beautifully detailed woodwork, stunning dining room, a solarium and a spectacular skylight. Three of its fireplaces have beautiful blue and white Dutch tile known as Delftware which were probably added to the fireplaces during the 1870's. Another feature are hand paintings on some of the woodwork, including doors & a fireplace overmantel. These most likely were done by Plummer's son, Leander Plummer II who studied in Paris & was a well known local artist. The home had fallen into disrepair and has been brought back to it's original splendor by WHALE. All systems have been updated, a new roof installed, and it is fully insulated. The three levels offer comfortable & ample living space.
