The neighborhood, bordered by Kinns and Plank roads and Interstate 87 in Clifton Park's northeastern section, is filled with streets that wind and bend through the sprawling subdivision, sometimes ending in cul-de-sacs or veering off and connecting with other roads. It was built by Robert Van Patten Sr., known as the "Father of Clifton Park" for building more than 5,000 houses in Clifton Park and Malta from the 1960s though the 1980s. Most of those homes are centered in the huge Country Knolls neighborhood north of Ushers Road and its two sister subdivisions: Country Knolls West and Country Knolls South. It's no surprise then, that Country Knolls South has all the earmarks of a Van Patten development, with rows of mature trees lining the streets and clusters of huge oak, birch and maple trees on most lots. The trees are lovely in the summer, casting delicious shade onto neat, modestly landscaped lawns that are quite large; many homes in Country Knolls West sit on half-acre and three-quarter-acre lots. Plenty of families live in Country Knolls South, and with good reason. With most single-family houses priced between $250,000 and $275,000, the development has become very attractive to younger, upwardly mobile families as longtime residents sell their homes and downsize.
