    What's special

This duplex is in the Clarksville neighborhood just north of West 6th Street and east of MoPac. Thanks to its historic roots as a freedmen's settlement, the neighborhood has managed to maintain its intimacy while protected from growth. Whit Hanks antiques, and numerous other shops near Lamar and 6th Street mean Clarksville residents get the best of both worlds -- a taste of urban living in a quiet, old neighborhood. In keeping with Clarksville's quiet atmosphere, the small commercial center on West Lynn Street has a village-like feel. At Nau's Drugstore, the soda fountain looks much as it has for decades. West Lynn Street has numerous restaurants and coffee shops. Many residents choose to shop at the neighborhood Fresh Plus grocery store. And Whole Foods' landmark store is just a few blocks east at Lamar and 6th. There is a dry cleaner and garden center in the neighborhood. Other favorite restaurants and shops can be found just a couple of blocks west of Lamar. A growing number of galleries are choosing to locate in the Clarksville neighborhood. One of Austin's best Latin-American import stores, El Interior, is on West Lynn Street. The hilly neighborhood makes for great evening walks. There are two small neighborhood parks -- Clarksville Park and West Austin Park. Deep Eddy and the newly renovated West Enfield pool are a few blocks to the west. For walkers, runners and cyclists, the Shoal Creek hike and bike trail is a few blocks to the northeast. The trail adjacent to Lady Bird Lake and Zilker Park is just a few blocks south. Downtown Austin is about a mile to the east and the University of Texas is a couple of miles northeast. The historic Sweet Home Baptist Church is directly behind this home. The woods that were once part of the Texas Confederate Veteran's Home are directly across the street.
