"Nuthall's Folly" is one of Southern Maryland's named estates. It is a private, secluded waterfront historic estate home located on shores of the Piney Point Creek and Potomac River. The estate includes an 1840's era brick manor house, a boat house, an art cottage, a Quonset style garage, a full size barn with 2 horse stalls, a pool and tennis court. The manor home is referenced in several historic documents as the finest and most adorned example of Greek Revival style architecture constructed in the 19th century in Southern Maryland. The floor plan is in the "telescope" style with the most sizable section of the home being a side passage double parlor layout. A grand 3 floor staircase with mahogany railing is located between the waterside and farm side double french entry doors. The manor features 10'+ ceilings throughout, extensive moldings, 7 working fireplaces and many other interesting architectural details. Huge windows provide excellent water or farm views from every room. The surrounding land is arranged in several peninsulas with some being wooded and others being grass fields. All are waterfront. An additional 6.5 acres ~2000' long private beach and sandbar on the Potomac River could be added to the property as it is also owned by the current owners of Nuthall's Folly. The home and property are not listed as Federal or Maryland State Historic properties currently to preserve the properties adaptability however it could be listed and historic easements could be put in place for preservation.
