A note from the Owner: Long before we bought this Broadway property we begin collecting architectural elements as we combed through antique stores, salvage warehouses and renovation firms around New England. The beach area house and land at 190 Broadway became available in 2009 and from the start we envision building a unique dwelling constructed to be energy-efficient, filled with light in here and able to feature the beautiful pieces we had gathered. From the front door with sidelights from the 1920's craftsman style home in Simsbury, Connecticut to the marble fireplace around from the halls of Yale University we able to build in elements of unique design and beauty and combined them with classic yet brand new of touches of crown molding and energy-efficient prairie style windows and doors. The HERS-rated structure features second and third floor walls which are constructed from sips structural insulated panels from Brattleboro VT. 6" of solid foam between 3/4" ply panels, and the ground floor walls and roof area filled with blown in insulation. Interior walls and ceilings also have recycled denim batting insulation; with an overall R38 rating. We also added in solar panels on the roof to take advantage of the abundant sunshine along the shore released the system and once the energy started accumulating and being bank by the power company we able to enjoy electric bill of about $12.00 a month at the height of the summer cooling months. The site and home are a perfect setting to enjoy the nearness of the water and beach and yet you sit back and have to feel like youre in your own peaceful enclave, Three levels of decks and cozy backyard and gardeners are all places to relax and enjoy the elements that the seasons provide. The gardens are organically maintained and have provided an abundance of herbs, vegetables and flowers throughout the growing season. The fire pit in the backyard has given hours and relaxing contemplation and comfort. Because we love the area in a room close to our neighbors your local friends, we have purchased a house across the street, that contains apartments, one of which we plan to move into as this home sells.
