Designed in the French country estate style by Howell Lewis Shay as his own personal residence in 1927. It is an amazingly in-tact example of Norman architecture with wrought iron balconies, a stone-arched loggia, a reflecting pool, leaded glass windows, 5 original fireplaces and the most amazing 3-story stair tower with a beamed ceiling & exceptional iron work. Constructed during the height of the Philadelphia county house movement, Mr. Shay always stated that this house was his favorite. It offers an exceptional space with 6 bedrooms & 3.5 baths, a sunken living room, cozy family room, a large dining room with a bay window, a breakfast room and a 3rd floor 'bunk' or game room (with a balcony into the stair tower!). All of this is on a wonderful 1.3 acre hillside lot. Located in the heart of the Rose Valley Historic District, this is one of the best examples of pre-depression construction & design.
