27 West 67th Street is one of the most important apartment houses in New York Citys history. Originally envisioned by 10 artists, the apartment features a living room/studio with a 17 foot tall ceiling. It was the first artist/studio on West 67th Street, predating the Caf des Artistes. The artists chose architect Sturgis and Simonson who refined the duplex/studio plan matching a double-height studio to single-height sleeping rooms. Completed in 1903, the building had 14 studios. This development on West 67th Street opened the way for the building of elite apartment houses all over Manhattan. Studio 1FW was gut renovated several years ago with an eye to retaining the artistic flair with which it was originally built and features modern conveniences such as central air conditioning. In addition to the majestic studio there is a library, dining room, large eat-in kitchen, powder room, plus two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Historic and majestic, it is also very comfortable and inviting.
