Why not live in the country? 3 hours from nyc or Phila in the middle of the "endless mountains" is the lowest population county within 200 miles of New York city. Eagels Mere is a long-term vacation destination which surrounds a huge spring fed lake. At the very end of this upper middle class town filled with many large homes and its own cultural center is my rustic four bedroom home. Not only is this in a county with only 8000 total residents, but my land is next to a 2000 acre tract that has never been developed and whose owner doesn't plan to do so. Lakes and wonderful walking trails (including one which lets you see 23 waterfalls) abound. No known crime. We are an elderly couple with cooperative living tendencies and we basically occupy the first floor, so you will be the only person (or couple) regularly using the second floor bathroom and the two adjoining bedrooms. My girlfriend would share the 2nd floor kitchen and we might also use the second floor living room occasionally. I am only there half the time. You can use the first floor washing machine and dryer. the house has three decks, one covered with a roof -- all have amazing views where there is no home within eyesight. If you walk out the front door and travel straight, you will find no sign of human habitation for ten miles-but a half mile walk in the opposite direction brings you to the center of eagels mere pa. If you are retired like us or have the type of job where you can work on line (or only have to come to the office occasionally) this would be a much more relaxed and fun lifestyle. Rent varies from $550 to $900 per month (including utilities) depending if you are moving here alone, how much work you will do, how we will deal with family visitors and whether you would want one or both bedrooms. Security deposit, last months rent and your own car needed. owner pays utilities, move in requires first and last months rent plus security-you cant really live this far in the woods without a car
