Lincoln Heights is considered to be the oldest neighborhood in Los Angeles, dating back to the 1830s. Perched on bluffs above the Los Angeles River. It was originally home to some of the city's wealthiest residents, who built a large number of Monterey, Mediterranean, Spanish Revival, French Eclectic, English Tudor, Folk Victorian, American Four Square, Art Deco, Mission Style, Queen Anne, Dutch Colonial, American Colonial and Craftsmen homes in the district. Many including the three story TOVAR residence built in 1907 (3111 Altura Street) are currently contributing historical residences preserved under the Los Angeles city's Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs).
