Interview process:
I am the owner of the apartment. I live in San Diego, California. If you are interested in this apartment, please send me a short description about yourself (where are you from, which school are you at/you went to, where do you work, when are you moving, where are you currently (in DC or not in DC), why are you moving). Please also include your phone number in the email. If I think it's a good fit, I will send you a text message to set up a zoom call. On the zoom call, we can get to know each other more. If it's a good fit, I will arrange for my current tenants to show you the place in person.
Introduction:
Apartment is suitable for one person or a couple. Rent is $2400 a month if you are living there alone. Rent is $2600 a month for a couple.
I am the owner of the apartment. I bought the apartment when I was completing law school at American University Washington College of Law. I now live in San Diego, California. My current tenants will move out at the end of September. I am looking for a long-term renter starting 10/01/2025. In case there are multiple interested tenants, the one that can sign the longest lease will definitely have an advantage.
The apartment is furnished throughout except the bedroom. You will have to buy your own bed and mattress. But the living room, dining room, office area, etc. are all furnished. So you can take your time to buy the bed and mattress. At least you will have a couch to sleep on while waiting for your bed. There are already two TVs in the apartment, so you don't need more TVs.
For the utilities, you don't need to pay for water, sewer, trash, or recycling. You only need to pay for gas, electricity, and Internet. I will have my current tenants leave their utilities on until you transfer to your name. The apartment is wired with Comcast cable, so you can either get Comcast Internet, or you can get T-Mobile or Verizon wireless home Internet. The apartment is very energy efficient, so the gas and electricity bills are very reasonable.
Location:
- 2 minutes' walk to Columbia Heights metro station (green line which can take you directly to Chinatown downtown area, Southwest Waterfront strip, baseball park, Navy Yard area; can transfer to yellow line which can take you to Pentagon City shopping mall, Ronald Reagan Airport, and Alexandria Old Town; can transfer to red line in Chinatown station which can take you to NOMA, Union Station, Dupont Circle, Tenleytown where American University is; can transfer to silver in L'Enfant Plaza station which can take you to Tyson's Corner shopping mall and Dulles Airport; can transfer to blue line which takes you to Arlington, Ronald Reagan Airport as well; can transfer to orange line which can take you to suburbs; silver, orange, blue all go to Smithsonian, Capitol South, Eastern Market); several bus lines on 14th and 16th street quickly bringing you down to Logan Circle, downtown city center.
- 2 minutes' walk to Target, Burlington, Marshall's, BestBuy, Giant (grocery store), Lidl (another grocery store and so cheap, I love it). You can get everything you need in the neighborhood. No need for a car at all.
- 2 minutes' walk to countless restaurants, including fast food chains (Chick-fil-A, CAVA, Panda Express, IHOP) and local inexpensive eateries (Vietnamese, Mexican) and some more formal places (Korean BBQ).
-15 minutes' walk to Adams Morgan bar/restaurant strip.
- I do not have a parking spot in the building. If you do have a car, you can find street parking in nearby neighborhoods. Or you can pay to park at a secure garage building one minute's walk away. The parking garage is under Target and BestBuy.
Description of the apartment (furnished):
- 917 sf, spacious for one bedroom apartment. It is one unit out of six units of a Victorian townhome completely renovated in 2017; all the neighbors are friendly and respectful. Mail box is inside the entrance of the building. Stairwell is cleaned by professionals.
- Living room is furnished with bookshelves, a couch, a coffee table, and a TV.
- Dining room is furnished with a table with two benches.
- Kitchen is open design and comes with all appliances (fridge, gas oven and stove, dishwasher, microwave), utensils, cookware, plates, bowls, and glasses; plenty of cabinet space; separate pantry next to the kitchen.
- Small balcony, perfect for a drink in the summer months while looking down on the streets and trees.
- Office area is furnished with an executive desk and a chair. So you can comfortably work from home if needed.
- Washer, dryer, water heater, central heating and AC.
- Bathroom is walk-in shower, very spacious.
- Bedroom has a spacious closet; another TV.
- Ten big windows for the entire apartment, plenty of natural light.
- In summary, just move in with your luggage and you are ready to make it your home.
Cost:
- Rent is $2600 for double occupancy, and $2400 for single occupancy. Suitable for one person or two people (a couple or just two friends).
- If you have a pet, there is a $500 one time nonrefundable fee.
- Security deposit will be one month's rent.
A little about me:
- 36 years old, originally from China, lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, DC, and now San Diego. I work at a national law firm. I own the apartment.
- Penn State alum, American University Washington College of Law alum.
- I respect your privacy so I will not intrude without notice and only for maintenance if needed.
What I am looking for in a tenant:
- Financially responsible and can pay rent on time.
- Clean and organized.
- You can have friends over but no crazy parties that destroy the place.
- Independent and can generally resolve small issues (like changing light bulbs, air filters) on your own. Major issues such as AC, plumbing, etc. will be my responsibility.
- Be respectful to the neighbors; no loud noises.
- No smoking or drugs.
- Rent is $2600 for double occupancy, and $2400 for single occupancy. Suitable for one person or two people (a couple or just two friends).
- If you have a pet, there is a $500 one time nonrefundable fee.
- Security deposit will be one month's rent.
