Solar & Electric Billing How It Works This property comes with a solar panel system that helps lower the electric bill. Here's what you need to know about how electricity will be billed: Who owns the solar panels? The solar panels belong to the landlord and are under a contract with the solar company. You don't need to pay the solar company directly. The landlord takes care of that. Who gets the power bill? The electric account (through Pacific Power) stays in the landlord's name. Each month, the utility calculates electricity use and applies credits from the solar panels. How do you pay for electricity? You'll reimburse the landlord for the monthly electric bill. The landlord will give you a copy of the utility bill so you can see exactly what was charged and how the solar credits reduced the cost. Your reimbursement will be added to your rent for the following month. Example: June's utility bill = $95 after solar credits You'll pay that $95 plus the $100 solar fee with your July rent. What if the bill is higher than normal? Solar panels help reduce costs, but they don't eliminate the bill completely. If electricity use is higher (like in winter), you're still responsible for the amount shown on the bill. How much does the Solar offset the power cost? On average, the solar system attached to this home generates enough power each year to cover roughly $200 a month. This often results in summer bills that are at the minimum $20 payment to Pacific Power and creates enough credits to reduce Fall bills substantially. Remember: Please use electricity responsibly.
