National Historic Register- Original Pioneer home of Nelson T. Stephens, a key spokesman for the establishment of a law school at the University of Kansas. His country home, built northwest of Lawrence in 1871, is a late example of the Villa style. In 1850, A.J. Downing called this building type "the most refined home of America - the home of its most leisurely and educated class of citizens."
