The Jungle Restaurant was not always the Jungle Restaurant. In Fact, for the longest time it was the Barrett''s Britz Building. The Britz was built in 1870 and was a tannery and leather dealer. The building underwent major renovation in 1875 to a renaissance-esque style, including Italianate Architecture-style and several other European influences. In a period where most buildings had steel store fronts, the Britz bragged elegance with Green River Limestone, initiating a long history of class to the building. In 1984, the Britz Building was added to the National Register of Historical Places, on file at 84001679. In 1994 a local couple renovated the building once again, adding 150,000 dollars worth of renovation to the building according to the Courier Press, 7/20/2014. The renovations included adding the original 8-foot door to the building that had been in the attic for several years. The Restaurant opened in 1995 as Jungle Mornings Coffee, including two floors of restaurant service and the top floor as loft apartments. Currently the building is known as The Jungle Restaurant, 415 Main Street. The Jungle is Evansville''s premiere dining experience and most elegant and classiest bar in the area. The building is nearly 150 years old and the history''s eminence is radiating through every experience the restaurant has to offer. There is no other building in the area that can match the long-history of the Jungle, or even come close-to for that matter.
