West Lake is a cold water lake located in Hancock County. The area of West Lake is 1344 acres, with a maximum depth of 70'. Large game fish are caught here including salmon, trout, bass and white perch. The water temperature on the surface will reach around 72 degrees, but stays around 50 degrees 65' down. Salmon are stocked each year, and brook trout are stocked occasionally. West Lake is a rocky lake with a few sand beaches. There is a boat landing at the end of the lake, but still very little activity on the lake, making it very quiet and peaceful. The water quality is excellent and LUPC regulations control development to protect the water quality. Lots on West Lake are few and far between.
