Room details
My wife and I bought this house at tax auction only to find out no one had lived in it for a generation. So we upgraded everything and brought this 127-year-old house into the 21st Century. We like to think it has all of the historic charm (oak mantel fireplace, refinished hardwood floors, claw foot bathtub) and modern conveniences (new kitchen, insulation, air conditioning) one could ask for.
We have continually improved it since the first people moved in. We bought the adjacent vacant lot from the city and turned it into an urban garden. We commissioned murals for the backyard addition. We do all of this because we renovate houses to a point that we would want to live in them.
This house is a block away from Woodbridge Pub, Pie Sci, Lexington Bar, and Wayne State's athletic fields. You can hear the marching band practice on fall afternoons. It is easy walking distance to the main campus of Wayne State and the College of Creative Studies, along with Midtown and the Q Line. My wife and I jog/walk our dogs past the house from our home in Midtown all the time. It is a quick bike ride to the rest of downtown Detroit, New Center, Corktown, Henry Ford Hospital, the Riverfront, the Dequindre Cut, and Eastern Market. The house's basement is large and has a side door convenient for bike storage.
We will consider pets. Rent is $600 per bedroom ($3,00 per month) with one-month security deposit. Tenants pay utilities, but we have done everything within our power (high-efficiency furnace, storm windows, spray foam insulation) to minimize that cost. Landlord takes care of landscaping and maintains garden. Tenants get to share in free vegetables.
Tenants responsible for utilities. Owner pays for trash/recycling and handles landscaping.
