This is a great neighborhood, tucked away by the hills, and yet close enough to everything. The Niles downtown is a one of the more charming places in the entire Bay area, especially the new town plaza with its history of railroading, Charlie Chaplin, and the Niles canyon railway. The Nursery across the street from Snyder way has a nice historical Adobe, and rose garden to hang around on a quiet morning, and the scenic Niles canyon road is right around the corner. If you have visitors, you can have them stay at the utterly charming Belvoir Springs hotel nearby, and dine at the Papilion, one of the best French restaurants in the bay area. The Niles elementary school is a fantastic one with high test scores, beautiful Mission-style architecture (most schools tend to look rather drab, but not this one!), and a fantastic community of dedicated parents and teachers, especially the PTA. You can go hiking in the hills behind the house if you want, and the streets are nice and quiet to bike around with your kids on the weekend in the midst of great scenery. Typically, being around such scenery is reserved for million++ homes in the bay area; this is a rare case where you can be next to such natural beauty and history in a relatively affordable neighborhood. These are the things that we really love about it.
