The Grant Park Historic District encompasses one of Atlanta's oldest & largest neighborhoods. The district includes Grant Park (oldest city park in Atlanta), a 131-acre green space & recreational area & the residential neighborhoods surrounding it. A majority of the buildings were built from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Grant Park's distinctive landscape includes rolling hills & scenic vistas. The neighborhood's grid street pattern & narrow rectangular lots which developed during the 1890's & early 1900's are representative of Atlanta residential plans of this era. Streets are lined with mature trees & there is an exensive sidewalk system, portions of which retain the original brick. Grant Park has two major attractions besides the park itself: the Zoo (originally known as Zoo Atlanta), & Atlanta Cyclorama. This urban green space is just a stone's throw from the bustle of Peachtree Street & conveniently located to other points of interest such as the Historic Oakland Cemetery, Geoegia State Capitol, Olympic Caldron, Atlanta Braves Turner Field, Martin Luther King National Historic Site, entertainment, dining, cultural destinations & minutes to all highways. Each year Grant Park plays host to several tours of homes & artist markets.
