788 West South Street is a house with unique character and charm and is part of the first planned neighborhood in Carlisle, later to become known as "Old Mooreland". All the utility lines are run in the alley behind the house and all the houses are set back from the street. Thr house was built in 1939 by Earl Hammon of Boiling Springs who built several other homes on West South Street. One of the signatures of Mr. Hammon's work is the beautiful woodwork, doors and built-in corner cupboards. All of the homes he built on West South Street have at least one. 788 has two. The Dutch doors in the kitchen and family room are original as well as the bathrooms and light fixtures in the living room, dirning room and foyer. There is an original cedar closet in the left front bedroom. The first owners of 788 were the Wagners. Their son, an engineer, suggested steel beams be used between the first and second floors and in the foundation of the poured concrete basement. The italian marble fireplace mantel is from the home and office of Doctor Wagner on Pomfret Street. A large screened porch with pergola has been added to the rear of the home overlooking the private and beautifully landscaped rear yard.
