MICHIGAN LOG CABIN LOCATED ON 120+/- WOODED ACRES - ON PRIVATE CAMP LAKE! This recreational parcel is located just South-East of Calderwood, an historic Logging Era location. Calderwood was established in the 1880s by a group of Minnesota men who organized a lumbermill there. Calderwood Lumber Company had a band sawmill, a planer, edgers, and trimmers. As was the custom then, the Company owned its own "Short Line" - 14 miles railroad track, had its own electric light plant and commissary. It produced ash, basswood, birch, elm, hemlock, hard and soft maple, red oak, white pine, spruce, tamarack boards, lath from hemlock timbers, and small dimension stock. "Lumberjacks" performed the initial harvesting and transporting of trees to nearby mills. They lived in lumber camps, and usually lived in primative cabins, bunkhouses or tents. The Dicksons, a prominent family who owned a general store in nearby Watersmeet, were also loggers. They built a Logging Cabin on the north side of Camp Lake, which was later used as a hunting cabin. The remains of this cabin, along with some artifacts, are located on the property offered for sale! The National Forest extends from the south shore of Lake Superior down to Wisconsin and the Nicolet National Forest and includes land in six U.P. counties. Just a mile+ to the west of the property is the a reservoir called the Bond Falls Flowage. This sprawling waterbody has a surface area of approximately 2,100 acres, and is about 40 feet deep. This water body has 20 miles of shoreline with many coves and more than 20 islands. The Flowage has two public access sites.
